Vehicle Description
1994 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
The fourth generation of "America's Sports Car" known casually as
the C4, was rolled out for the 1984 model year. Most Corvette fans
are well acquainted with the C4 cars, as they represent one of the
biggest technological leaps forward in the car's long history.
After the $31,683 ZR1 Special Performance Package, the most
expensive 1994 Corvette option was the Z07 Adjustable Suspension
Package.
For consignment, a 1994 Chevrolet Corvette coupe showing 79,493
miles, but the true miles are unknown. Vette fans can relax, this
baby has a newer OptiSpark distributor, which of course in
1992-1996 Corvettes was prone to failure due to its location and
design.
Exterior
Wearing Dark Red Metallic two stage paint that drapes over the car,
the glossy coat is complemented by the contrasting 17-inch five
spoke black wheels, instantly giving the Corvette, one of 17,984
made in '94, a unique profile. The rounded fascia with integrated
driving lights, harkens back to the original earliest C4's but with
a more lasting and relevant design. The profile of the car is not
surprisingly shark-like, long, low, and streamlined. The nose
stretches out before the deeply raked windshield, a short cabin,
and a flat rear deck, and some aftermarket exhaust tips dress up
the solid rear tail. Imperfections include some missing paint on
the front air dam, requisite chin scrapes, and various scuffs on
the body.
Interior
Solid black molded plastic doors give way to black leather bucket
seats that show some patina with typical creasing from use, more
prominent of course on the driver's side. The leather wrapped
steering wheel has a large airbag compartment in the center and has
held up well. While the analog dash flanking the familiar orange
backed digital screen includes an ascending tachometer, then four
small gauges that complete the arch on the other side. The center
stack, which is canted toward the driver, contains an info screen
with idiot lights, push button A/C controls, a Sony screen
displaying the AM/FM radio with CarPlay and Bluetooth capability.
The automatic shifter is in the center console with more black
leather around the knob and as a boot, in front of seat adjustment
controls, all showing slight patina. Behind the armrest is the
storage shelf in the back, covered in a low pile black carpet
showing some use while the carpet that covers the front floor is
nice and is protected by black rubber mats.
Drivetrain
The much loved 5.7 liter, 350ci V8 is under the long nose which is
fuel injected and factory rated at a whopping 300 horsepower and
340 foot pounds of torque, and it presents cleanly. The 4-speed
automatic transmission is the 4L60E which sends gusto to the rear
wheels where it finds 2.59 gears in a limited slip axle. Power disc
brakes are supplied to each of the four wheels and newer steel
brake lines have been added. While we have the hood up, we note
updated projector beam headlights replacing the Halogens. There's a
newer radiator onboard as well.
Undercarriage
Nice underneath with minimal surface rust and just a thin film of
oil on the pan and crossmember. The dual exhaust flow from the
engine then runs tandem under the aluminum driveshaft to then go
wide to meet stock style mufflers and exit through larger than
stock chrome tips. Independent suspension is found on the front and
rear and includes forged aluminum components, transverse monoleaf
springs, steel stabilizers, and other components not seen on mere
mortal cars.
Drive-Ability
Despite the occasional bad rap, many of us remain C4 fans. This one
performs as expected, with a torquey grunt off the line and great
acceleration and handling. Sure, it's a little less refined than
your C7, but this is the analog antidote to Corvette fever. This
well maintained car performed in the functionality test as well,
scoring 100. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these
functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot
guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your
purchase.
Yes, C4's are still bargains for the level of performance they
deliver and when you combine that with one that's been pampered and
mostly unmodified, you have a winning recipe for the gateway drug
to the sports, collector and classic car worlds!
