For Sale: 1978 Chevrolet Camaro in Saint Louis, Missouri

Vehicle Description

This is a highly original, documented Z28 that comes with both the original window sticker and build sheet. (Both included in the pictures) This Camaro was always garaged and well maintained over the years. The drive train is believed to be original. The engine for example is date code correct and contains the "CHC" stamp on the block representing a LM1 350 four barrel engine which is in sync with the original build sheet description. It was bought at a local now defunct dealer in Staunton, IL and has been in this region its entire life. Also included with the sale is the original owners manual and dealer key fob.

MECHANICAL

This car runs and sounds great. It has the original factory dual exhaust except for the stainless exhaust extensions/tips which I added. The transmission shifts precisely during acceleration and when asked to downshift. The 3:42 to 1 rearend gear ratio makes for great stop light to stop light acceleration as well as highway cruising. The car recently underwent a complete tune-up including new plugs, carb adjustments and the changing of all filters and fluids. The BF Goodrich radial TAs are new as well as the alternator. I would not hesitate to take this car on a long road trip based on its mechanical condition. It rides and handles very well with no rattles or shakes.

PAINT/BODY

The paint is believed to be original with minor cosmetic touch ups over the years. The paint and stripes show as well in person as they do in the pictures. There is a small ding on the roof and on the rear drivers side quarter panel. I believe both could be fixed by a dent less repair shop if desired. I have not detected any problematic rust throughout the car.

The body is lazer straight with no signs of any post manufacturer body work. The doors, unlike many Camaros of this era, do not sag and close effortlessly.

INTERIOR

The interior is in excellent, near new condition. It appears as well in person as in the pictures. I did refresh the interior including a new dash pad and carpeting. The original dash pad had curled up at the forward edge .... a very common condition for this generation of Camaros.

FUNCTIONALITY

Great effort was expended to ensure that everything functions as it did when new. Every light and switch works all the way down to the fiber optic ash tray light. For example the heater works, the air conditioner blows cold air and the cruise control works as it should. Even the electric clock in the dash works and keeps excellent time. The original stereo was replaced by an aftermarket version years ago but sounds very good.

I own 4 Gen 2 Camaros. I've been working on them since I was 17 years old. This is a great Camaro. If I had the garage space I would keep this one too. My hope is that it goes to someone that will cherish and preserve it as a great representation of Camaro history.

I will entertain reasonable offers and am happy to answer any questions from serious potential buyers.
