This 1969 Mercury Cougar XR-7 is one of 96 convertibles equipped
with a 428ci Cobra Jet V8 and three-speed automatic transmission
for the model year, and it underwent a multi-year refurbishment in
the 1990s after a prolonged period in storage. It was acquired by
the previous owner in 2015, and subsequent work consisted of
overhauling the brakes and air conditioning system, restoring the
steering wheel, rebuilding the Traction-Lok differential, and
replacing the tires and braking components. The car is further
equipped with a Ram Air induction system, a white soft top, front
disc and rear drum brakes, replica styled steel wheels, concealed
LED headlights, and sequential turn signals. The cabin is outfitted
with a center console, a rebuilt AM/FM radio, power windows, air
conditioning, and replacement white vinyl and leather upholstery.

he steering wheel features woodgrain trim and frames a 120-mph
speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and supplementary gauges. The
instrument cluster and clock lenses were replaced, the gauges were
calibrated, and the ammeter was converted to display voltage. The
five-digit odometer shows 11k miles.
The R-Code 428ci Cobra Jet V8 was factory equipped with a
four-barrel carburetor and was rated at 335 horsepower and 440
lb-ft of torque. The engine block is a warranty replacement and
runs strong. Power is routed to the rear wheels through a
three-speed automatic transmission, and the Traction-Lok
differential was rebuilt and is a 3.25:1 ratio!
