For Sale: 1970 Plymouth Road Runner in Cleveland, Ohio

Vehicle Description

Excellent older restoration still in great condition. Period-correct 440 with Six-Pack induction and Air Grabber hood. Original color combination. Full Rally gauges including Tick-Tock-Tach. A clean Roadrunner with big block blasting power!Chrysler hit a home-run with the bargain-priced Roadrunner, creating a segment that practically defined the muscle car era. Affordable yet fast, it was just what the doctor ordered to get young people into Plymouth showrooms. Today, those same Roadrunners are highly prized for many of the same reasons: great performance and a lot of nostalgia. This particular 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner sports an older restoration that's holding up extremely well, and brings all the virtues that made these cars great. The bodywork under that EF8 Ivy Green paint is still laser-straight and the 1970 facelift gives it a clean look that we find insanely appealing. That long crease running from nose to tail makes the big 'Bird look aggressive and tidy, while the 'dust trails' along the flanks are the kind of fun that the Roadrunner has always represented. Other details include a functional 'Air Grabber' hood that rams fresh air into the Six Pack air cleaner, correct '440+6' decals, and a simple black stripe across the tail. Things like the chrome bumpers, stainless trim, glass, and lenses are likewise in very good to excellent condition, suggesting proper care since the restoration was finished. It's not a perfect car, but it's ideal for cruising and having fun on the street. The two-tone green interior is definitely a product of the period, and we love the funky '70s look. All the soft parts have been replaced with accurate reproductions that show extremely well, and you may be pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the Roadrunner actually is. There's lots of room in there! This one features a full set of Rallye gauges to monitor the thumping big block up front, and there's an upgraded Sony AM/FM/CD stereo head unit in the dash. Headrests were mandatory by 1970, but we think Chrysler's solution looks best, adding a sporty attitude. There are also newer carpets, a really nice dash pad, and an original headliner that's in good condition with only one little tear. You also get a truly massive trunk that is outfitted with a correct plaid mat and full-sized spare tire assembly. This was originally a base 383 car, but during the restoration it received a proper 440 cubic inch V8 topped by Six-Pack induction. That means three 2-barrel carbs to make one of the most impressive engine bays of the era. It's finished in correct Hemi Orange with reproduction stickers on the air cleaner that continue the Roadrunner theme. Finned valve covers from Mopar Performance look great, and it's outfitted with a few upgrades like a set of ceramic-coated long-tube headers that really bolster the low-end torque. It's also equipped with power steering and a 3-speed TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission, so it's easy for anyone to get behind the wheel and start having fun. The undercarriage is original, so it's not all detailed for show, but it is solid and shows no evidence of prior rust repairs, making for a great foundation and all the critical areas are solid. The 8.75-inch rear end has what we believe to be 3.23 gears inside, so it's a relaxed cruiser in today's world, and there's evidence of lots of recent work: exhaust, transmission, and brakes all show signs of recent work. The engine starts easily, idles nicely, and generally works like it should, emitting a wonderful intake howl when you crack open all six barrels. There's torque all over the map and the quick-shifting TorqueFlite means this Roadrunner is always ready to go. Factory Rally wheels are always the right choice and carry fat 235/60/15 white letter radials for the perfect '60s performance look. This is the essence of the muscle car era: big power, easy handling, and a nasty attitude. The Roadrunners are bulletproof reliable, fun to drive, and still turn heads even 55 years later. This one gets a lot of things right and has a perfect period look that everyone will love. If you've been looking for a clean B-body, this is a great choice, and the proper upgrades are already in place.
