In September 1999, Mercedes-Benz introduced the updated E 55 AMG at
the Frankfurt International Motor Show as the flagship of the
facelifted W210 series. While it continued to use the proven
5.4-liter M113, the refreshed AMG featured distinctive styling
updates, including a redesigned front apron with integrated fog
lamps, body-colored AMG side skirts, and an exclusive rear apron.
Boasting 349 naturally aspirated horsepower, the AMG can launch to
60 mph in just 4.9 seconds while covering the quarter mile in 13.5
seconds at 105 mph. While the E55 packed that classic AMG V8 punch
it also boasted 35-percent higher spring rates, sportier Bilstein
shock absorbers, and a larger sway bars. Larger 18-inch AMG
Monoblock wheels house larger brakes as well. Even with all of this
sporting prowess, the car is still a Mercedes at heart offering
top-of-the-line refoment and comfort features when new to result in
a sharper, more refined interpretation of AMG's performance
sedan.
Finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic over a Black leather
interior, this E 55 AMG was sold new in Wheeling, West Virginia, on
16 August 1999. Well-equipped from the factory, it features a
comprehensive list of comfort and convenience options, including an
electric tilt/slide glass sunroof, automatic climate control, and
heated front seats. The driver and front passenger benefit from
power-adjustable sport seats with memory that also adjusts the
steering column and mirrors. Safety and visibility are enhanced
with Xenon headlamps for right-hand traffic, a headlamp cleaning
system, and rain-sensing wipers. Additional amenities include an
auto-dimming rearview and side mirror system, as well as an
electric rear-window roller blind.
Incredibly, the clean CARFAX reveals the car remained with just a
single owner with regular servicing until 2024, when it was
acquired by the current owner with only 1,012 original miles. Since
acquisition, a complete service was initiated that included an
engine oil change, a flush of the coolant system, brakes, and
transmission, replacement spark plugs, a new fuel filter, new
Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, and a replacement headliner among
other restorative efforts.
Today, this stunning example shows just 1,012 miles at cataloging
and is likely one of the finest, lowest-mileage E 55s currently
available. This emerging Youngtimer classic boasts a simple and
understated elegance paired with high-performance capabilities-and
with its naturally aspirated powerplant standing out in an era of
forced induction, it's poised to remain highly sought-after for
years to come.
