This 1978 Jeep CJ-5 is a beautiful rig that has had only 2 Owners
with the 2nd owner having it since the early 80's. He purchased it
from the original owner and insists it is a true Golden eagle
although there is no way to 100% prove it. It also has a 401 V8
which is really cool. It spent its life in Oregon so it is an all
steel original metal Jeep and he did a frame-on restoration around
5 years ago and it has around 5,000 miles on it since it was
completed. He definitely took care of this Jeep and did a quality
restoration to it. It looks awesome and runs and drives great! It
is a well built Jeep with a lot of cool upgrades. The body is clean
and straight and the Classic Black paint was professionally redone
when restored and it looks awesome with the Golden Eagle on the
hood. It has a new Bestop Soft Top and Soft Doors as well when it
was redone. It has aftermarket front and rear bumpers installed and
the front bumper has a Warn 8274 8,00 pound vintage winch that is
working. The Diamond Plate was installed for looks and
protection...not to cover any rust or damage. There is a built in
removeable tow bar on the front. The underside is clean and
original with no rust issues. He also added heat shields to shield
the floor from the exhaust and mufflers.
The interior is your basic Jeep interior. He added aftermarket
front and rear replacement seats and the dash was was redone and is
nice. It has new gauges and speedo unit and it has the factory roll
bar too. The headlights, taillights, brake lights, and turn signals
are all working. The gauges all work. The heat, horn, and
windshield wipers work.
Mechanically this CJ5 is excellent!! He replaced the stock engine
with a rebuilt 401 AMC V8 that runs strong with no issues or red
flags that we found. This was done when restored and has around
5,000 miles on it. We did not get receipts. The engine has TRW
forged pistons, mild cam, Edelbrock air gap intake, 800 cfm Carter
AFB carb, HEI ignition. The engine rotating assembly was balanced
and this engine runs strong. They added headers and dual exhaust as
well. The transmission is the T-18 4 Speed Manual that shifts nice
with a strong center-force clutch. It is mated to the Dana 20
transfer case and the 4WD works like it should. The rear axle is a
Dana 44 with new Yukon 3.73 gears, Yukon locker, and chrome moly
axle shafts. The front axle is a a custom built Dana 44 with new
Yukon 3.73 gears and chrome moly axle shafts. He added a 2 Inch
lift with 33" BFG Mud Terrain tires on Eagle Alloy Wheels. This is
an awesome build and cool CJ!!!
