Vehicle Description
Chassis No. 58E088176
Engine No. 58E088176
One of only 815 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz produced in 1958, this
example was ordered new in special order Tahoe Blue, a color
previously offered for the 1957 model year. Complementing the
vibrant metallic exterior is an Argyle Blue power folding
convertible top and a Blue Cape Buffalo Metallic Leather. As one of
Cadillac's premier offerings when new, this Eldorado came with
lavish levels of standard equipment, pushing the base price to
$7,500. This included the powerful 365 cu-in V8, rated at 335
horsepower with its tri-power carburetors, paired with a
Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. Standard features, best
described by Cadillac as "every known motoring advancement"
included power windows, power vent windows, power convertible top
six-way power adjustable seats, a Pre-Selector radio, robust
heating and ventilation systems, power steering, power brakes,
chrome plated saber spoke wheels, and remote trunk release.
Additionally, the Cadillac Build Sheet shows this example was
ordered with the rare "Cadillac Air Conditioner" option, E-Z-Eye
Glass, and Autronic-Eye automatic headlight dimmer.
Acquired by the current owner 15 years ago, a full and
comprehensive nut and bolt restoration began under their direction
to return the car to its original condition by Art's Antique &
Classic Auto Services of Tempe, Arizona. Leaving no part of the car
untouched, this rare Eldorado Biarritz was stripped to a bare frame
with the bodywork repaired as needed and refinished as originally
specified in Tahoe Blue with correct red oxide floors. Its numerous
and detailed chrome and stainless-steel trim pieces were restored
to their original luster. Inside, the interior was correctly
reupholstered in current correct full grain leather with matching
plush cut loop carpeting. The chrome plated saber spoke wheels are
mounted with period correct BF Goodrich Silvertown white wall
tires.
The mechanical systems received the same level of attention that
included an overhaul the engine, transmission, carburetors, air
conditioning, suspension, and brake systems. With nearly $200,000
invested in the restoration by July 2013, the car was completed to
the highest possible level with zero expense spared, adhering to
Cadillac's original and exacting standards throughout. The result
is surely one of the finest on offer today.
As presented, the car has only covered 29 miles since its total
restoration was completed. Never publicly shown before, this
Cadillac is in as new a condition as reported by the Broad Arrow
Group specialist. As a result, it is ideally suited for competitive
showing with the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) or
Cadillac & LaSalle Club National events. It remains the epitome of
"road presence" from an era of unrivaled American manufacturing
excellence, sure to garner attention anywhere it goes, expectably
when with the top down and fiberglass parade boot installed.
