Launched in April 1964 at the New York World’s Fair, Ford Motor Company’s sporty new Mustang created an overnight sensation and established a completely new automobile market for younger buyers. Its debut also remains historic as the most successful new-car introduction in automotive history. Hardtop and Convertible body styles were released first, with the 2+2 Fastback joining the Mustang lineup in September, 1964. According to VIN and body Tag analysis, this example is an early-production 1965 Mustang 2+2 Fastback, factory-finished in Wimbledon White paint and produced at Dearborn, Michigan on the 23rd of October, 1964. Delivery was via Ford Motor Company’s Charlotte, North Carolina D.S.O. (District Sales Office). Original equipment included a 200-horsepower, C-Code 289 CI V-8 engine and Code 5 4-speed manual transmission. Presented as a Shelby GT350 replica, this early-production 2+2 Fastback Mustang features Wimbledon White paint with Guardsman Blue Shelby Le Mans stripes and graphics. The 289 CI Ford V-8 engine features an MSD Atomic throttle-body fuel injection system and hi-rise aluminum intake manifold, plus a cast-aluminum Shelby “T” oil pan, OEM-style chrome open-element air cleaner, and “Cobra” cast-aluminum rocker covers. A Monte Carlo bar, mounted underhood delivers additional chassis rigidity, as used on the original Shelby GT350. Further performance is unlocked by a late-model 5-speed manual transmission. Updated 4-wheel disc brakes provide stopping power. The Black bucket-seat interior is excellent throughout and includes a dash-mounted pod housing a Shelby-scripted 8,000-rpm tachometer and oil-pressure gauge, Shelby-style shift lever, and Shelby-style SFI competition seat belts, a fold-down rear seat, and wood grain steering wheel. Underneath, the Mustang’s underbody features correct Red primer paint and a clean, restored chassis, finished in Black paint and retaining OEM components. Shelby/Cragar wheels mounting BF Goodrich P215/60R15 Radial Tires finish this high-quality, early-production 1965 Ford Mustang 2+2 Fastback off. Appraised value of $140,000 CAD. Canadian tax is not applicable.
