For decades, Enzo Ferrari remained steadfast in his belief that
road cars bearing his name should be powered exclusively by twelve
cylinders. Yet the immense popularity of the V6-powered,
Dino-badged 206 and 246 GT proved there was significant demand for
lighter, mid-engined models from Maranello. That momentum only grew
with the commercial success of the V8-powered 308 and 328.
Throughout the 1990s, Ferrari continued to refine this formula,
introducing semi-monocoque construction in the 348 and an
F1-derived paddle-shift transmission in the F355. By the dawn of
the new millennium, however, a clean-sheet design was deemed
necessary to form the backbone of Ferrari's next generation of road
cars.
The result was the Ferrari 360 Modena. Developed in conjunction
with Alcoa, the 360 featured an all-aluminum space-frame chassis
wrapped in aerodynamically refined Pininfarina bodywork. Debuting
at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show, it was 220 pounds lighter and 40
percent stiffer than the F355 it replaced. Beneath the glass rear
decklid sat a heavily revised 3.6-liter Tipo F131 V8 producing 400
horsepower, paired with a more advanced version of the F1
paddle-shift transmission that offered improved rev-matching and
response. With its combination of increased usability, comfort, and
the performance expected of the Prancing Horse, the 360 Modena set
a new standard for Ferrari's mid-engined lineup, shaping the
brand's direction for years to follow.
For enthusiasts who still wanted the classic "click-clack" gear
shift from the six-speed gated manual transmission, examples like
this 360 Modena were the ideal offering. Sold new by Ferrari of
Denver, Colorado, the 360 was delivered to its first owner in Utah
in August 2004. Finished in iconic Rossa Corsa, it was optionally
equipped with the sporting Red brake calipers, front and rear
Challenge grilles, and Scuderia Ferrari fender shields. The Beige
leather interior features the optional power-adjustable
Daytona-style seats, a leather rear shelf/door mould, and a leather
headliner. Completing the options list are the sought-after 18-inch
modular wheels to create a beautiful yet sport-focused example.
The clean CARFAX report indicates that this car remained in Utah
with its original owner until January 2013, when it was relocated
to Massachusetts with its second caretaker. In April 2021, the car
passed to its next owner in Ohio, where it remained for only a
brief period before being added to the current owner's prominent
Ferrari collection in December 2021, with just 2,880 miles. Under
their care, this stunning example has accumulated an additional 13
miles, currently displaying just 2,893 miles at cataloging.
Despite the limited mileage accumulated, the car has been regularly
cared for and features a July 2025 service at official Ferrari
dealership Prancing Horse of Nashville in preparation for sale.
Furnished with its books and tools in their original Schedoni
leather cases, this stunning 360 remains a highly original and
well-preserved example today, presenting an excellent entry point
into investment grade mid-engine Ferrari ownership.
