Talk about a beautiful automobile! This frame-off restored 1952 Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe is one of the nicest such cars you will find. Produced from 1949-1952, the Styleline was part of Chevrolet’s first postwar car design and was a huge success. There are plenty of examples out there but very few that have been through this degree of restoration.
This example was built in November 1952 at the Flint assembly plant with a Fisher body from Janesville. It has been through an older nut-and-bolt restoration and looks fantastic throughout. You might see such an undertaking with a 1960’s Corvette or Shelby, but you don’t often get this on an early 50’s passenger car. Just look at the underside pictures and you’ll see what I mean. The body was redone in its original code 473 combination of Twilight Blue for the body and wheels and Admiral Blue for the top. It is nicely highlighted by the Deluxe trim pieces along with the shiny chrome. Note the front and rear gravel guards, bumper / grille guards, fuel door guard, and tail pipe extension. Nice! A proper windshield visor is also present, and the wide whitewall tires are the finishing touch.
The car is powered by Chevrolet’s ubiquitous Stovebolt straight-six engine, displacing 216.5ci with a rating of 92hp at 3,400rpm. This OHV design was part of GM’s lineup for many decades and provided excellent dependability for cars and trucks alike. It starts easily and runs smoothly, just like it did more than 70 years ago. The column shifted three-speed manual transmission works perfectly and feeds the factory torque tube arrangement to the 4.11 rear end. The brakes, steering, and suspension have also been redone and operate as they should.
The interior is befitting to the rest of the car. Like the exterior, it remained true to its original configuration, this being code 212 which combines Light Blue Chevron Cloth with Dark Blue Broadcloth. Everything is in excellent condition; seats, door panels, headliner, dashboard, gauges, lenses, and more. And you can’t miss that fabulous jet-age steering wheel! As a Deluxe it has the proper floor treatment of carpet in back and rubber in front. All gauges and lights work properly including the turn signals and rare backup lights. The parking brake and heat / defrost are also functional as is the original tube AM radio! Modifications are limited to an underdash oil pressure gauge and an electric wiper conversion. The trunk compartment houses a proper spare tire and bumper jack.
A fully restored 1952 Styleline Deluxe obviously doesn’t have the six-figure price point of a restored Chevelle SS or Camaro Z28. But that doesn’t mean it took any less work to complete. To the contrary, this example is superior to many other “restorations” out there. It’s a beautiful and historic automobile that is a pleasure to be around.
