For Sale: 1987 Pontiac Firebird in Akron, Ohio

Vehicle Description

For Sale: 1987 Pontiac Firebird, 47,904 miles.  It's the 2.8L V6, automatic transmission.  I've included a 6 and a half minute video going through the details, I'll do my best to put a transcript below:

Price is listed at $12,000 OBO, there aren't many of the V6's around so it's hard to find comps. What I did find puts this around $14k, but I'm not a dealer and there's some stuff that isn't perfect so I'm willing to be flexible if there's a good reason.  If you offer me lower than asking and I'm not sure if it's reasonable, I'll probably make you wait and see if anyone else wants to pay more.  The open market works pretty well that way.  :)

The car's not perfect but is pretty clean, only minor scratches and some imperfections in the decals.  It starts great, runs great, steers great, stops great, I even took it to the 1/4 mile a few weeks ago.  The time was crazy slow, partially because it's built that way but partially because I didn't want to break something right before I sold it :)

I've had it for about a year and 1,000 miles, I bought it at an estate sale with the intent of making it a cruiser or putting a manual and the 305 in it.  We accidentally bought a house 4 days later that turned out to be a complete gut job, we'll be working on the house till at least next spring and I just don't have the time to do what I wanted with the car.

My favorite part about this car is the possibilities:  if you want to restore it to factory, you can still find original parts and good aftermarket ones.  If you'd rather concentrate on performance, it's a direct swap with the 305, which I hear is actually faster than the 350.  That's probably why there aren't many out there with the V6 still in it, I'm an amateur and I feel like I could pull that off :)

Since I don't know what you want to do when you buy this car, I don't want to fix anything that you'd be fixing differently.  If I know classic car enthusiasts they'd usually rather pay less for a car and do what needs done the way they want to do it.  So I'll take care of some things, leave some things up to you (I can do it or you can do it yourself and we'll take something off the price), and some things I'll just have to leave as is.

Issues: Driver's side headlight doesn't go up or down, it's either the control module or a loose wire.  The wipers work but the fluid doesn't deploy.  The cruise doesn't work.  I expect to fix all of these things before anyone comes out to look at it.

There's a crack in the top 2 inches of the plastic part of the radiator.  It runs fine but will leak if filled above the crack.  I think I can get a replacement for $209.99 but I don't want to do it if you are planning on swapping the engine.

Cosmetic: Minor scratches around the key slots, side mirrors and decals, there's a crack in the right tail light that's an easy fix if one of us can find the part.  Carpet is mostly good, the center console is peeling from the edge, the driver's seat is worn through on one of the edges.  Other than that everything is pretty good except the plastic parts on the seat belt buckles.  The sleeves are cracked, the caps are either busted or busting.  I think I can replace all of these for about $200 but they'll be aftermarket and the only caps I can find that fit right now are black.  The belts work fine, if you want original parts I'll just leave them the way they are and you can start looking once you buy the car.

The AC doesn't blow cold, the parts look OK so it's probably a freon issue which is probably R34.  Removing this would probably add 20 HP by itself, so it's probably not worth fixing if you're planning on taking the compressor out (and the emissions pump if you're feeling frisky).  The gas tank baffles don't seem to exist, the gauge works but the needle wobbles every time you brake. Again, probably not worth fixing if you're going to drop the tank anyway.

I think that's everything, hopefully the pictures and video do this justice.  I will say again that I'm flexible as long as you're reasonable, I'm capable of either fixing some of this stuff or taking something off the price so I don't have to, and I hope someone picks this beauty up and can do it justice.  It's a really pretty car and really fun to drive!

If interested send an email through here and I'll get back as quick as I can. Thanks!
