Vehicle Description
Cruisin Classics is pleased to present to you this 1951 Ford F1
Pick-up. This truck is a wonderful example of the Ford Bonus-Built
truck era. In 1951-52, the F1s came with a very unique aero-dynamic
grille that sets these trucks apart from the crowd and makes them
highly sought after. This particular F1 sports a light yellow
grille that perfectly complements the bright red paint on the body.
The eye-catching red paint is glossy, deep, and of high quality.
Round headlights in bright bezels flank the grille, and a chrome V8
badge sits above it. The front lip of the rounded hood features
more light yellow accents with red "FORD" lettering within. Along
the sides of the hood are vents and bright spears with "F1" and
"FORD" lettering. Both the front and rear bumpers are painted
black, as are the running boards. Additionally, both running boards
feature the Ford "crest" logo step plates. The driver's side of the
truck is equipped with a bright side mirror mounted to an
adjustable pole, while the passenger side is home to the gas fill
at the rear corner of the cab. Both of the rear fenders are
good-quality fiberglass replacements, while the rest of the truck
is all steel. The side view of this F1 is taken to the next level
with stylish chrome wheels with faux knock-offs all wrapped in
Cooper Cobra Radial GT tires. In the rear, you'll find a beautiful
wood bed with red dividers, light yellow Ford script on the
tailgate with hook & chain closures, and a single exhaust pipe.
Lift the bulbous hood to reveal a very stock and tidy engine bay
with a 239ci flat-head V-8 at the center. The red V-8 is topped off
with a single-barrel Ford carburetor and an oil-bath air cleaner.
Steering is manual, as are the 4-wheel drum brakes. This truck
still runs on a 6-volt system with a generator. The engine is mated
up to a 3-speed manual transmission with a shifter on the column
(3-on-the-tree). The 100hp factory-rated engine runs great, and
it'll get you where you want to go, just not very quickly. Purists
may like the current drivetrain combo, but with this truck being as
nice as it is, we can see someone choosing to take it to the next
level with an engine & transmission swap and maybe some Vintage Air
too.
When you open the driver's door, you'll be treated to a nicely done
interior with a black vinyl bench seat in good condition and a
black rubber floor mat. The cabs on the 51-52 F1's were improved
over their predecessors with a large rear window and were
advertised as the "Five Star Cab". Though rather spartan by today's
standards, these cabs were top of the line in their time. This cab
has black vinyl covering on the ceiling, rear cab walls, and front
kick panels. The doors are red painted steel with no panel
coverings. The large black 3-spoke steering wheel appears original
and has "Hounsell" carved next to the working horn button (perhaps
the name of an owner at some point in the truck's life). The wheel
is on a static column that is also home to a turn signal indicator
and the aforementioned shifter for the manual transmission. Ahead
of the wheel on the black painted steel dash are original gauges,
key ignition and a start button, choke and timing advance, and a
control for the single speed wipers (that struggle to work). In the
center of the dash is what appears to be the original AM radio,
which, not surprisingly, is inoperable. Ahead of the passenger is a
glovebox that contains an original owner's manual and a VIN plate
on the back of the door. Under the dash you'll find an emergency
brake lever, a pull knob that opens the cowl vent to let fresh air
in the cab, and a working heater/blower unit with a knob to control
it. Overhead is a driver's visor only. This truck comes with a
49-51 shop manual, a folder full of years of receipts, and a photo
album with lots of photos of the restoration.
As you can see from the photos, this truck has a great look that
will turn heads wherever you go! There are only a limited number of
these 51s left on the road, and this is a rare opportunity to add a
gorgeous one to your garage. Give our friendly staff a call today
before someone else beats you to it!
