For Sale at Auction: 2008 Alfa Romeo 8C in Monterey, California
After a lackluster period focused on sedans and hatchbacks that
ended in 1995, whispers began circulating at the turn of the
millennium about the legendary Alfa Romeo brand's return to
building pure sports cars. These hopes materialized in 2003, when
Alfa Romeo 8C debuted as a concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show to
universal acclaim, later appearing in open-top form two years later
at the 2005 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The all-new 8C owed
its beautifully proportioned carbon fiber bodywork to in-house
designer Wolfgang Egger, and its name to the highly prized
straight-eight Alfas of the 1930s.
Alfa Romeo devotees were thrilled when the production of both
variants was confirmed, and within weeks, plans were finalized for
production of 500 examples of the Competizione coupe and a further
500 open-topped Spiders. Customer deliveries of the Competizione
began in 2007, with the Spider following two years later. Both
versions were powered by an enlarged version of the Ferrari-built
4.7-liter V8 utilized in the Maserati Quattroporte and GranTurismo.
The Tipo F136 YC engine sends 444 horsepower to the same six-speed,
semi-automatic gearbox used in the Ferrari 599 Fiorano, located
ahead of the rear axle for an ideal 50/50 weight distribution.
This 2008 8C Competizione was finished in the wonderful metallic
color of Rosso 8C Competizione complemented by optional Alfa Red
full-grain twisted leather on its carbon fiber bucket seats and
door inserts. It would also be optionally specified with Alfa
Romeo's distinctive Quadrifoglio emblem painted on the front
fenders, Dark Silver-finished 20-inch wheels, and a matching
Schedoni three-piece luggage set in Alfa Red twisted full-grain
leather. The original owner's service manual shows that the car was
delivered on 9 December 2009 to a Mr. Floyd Hills of New York, New
York, with a service stamp documenting that the 8C was serviced by
Servizio Rosso LLC in 2012.
The accompanying clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report shows that the
car was later registered in Florida and remained registered in the
Sunshine State until 2020. That year, the Alfa transitioned to the
current Northern California-based owner who has since enjoyed the
car as intended for its naturally aspirated V8 performance,
recording just under 20,000 miles at the time of cataloging. They
note that the 8C has continued to receive its regular routine
services, and also that it has been fitted with carbon ceramic
brakes as found on the 8C Spider.
Today, the car presents in well-kept, highly original condition. In
keeping with its factory presentation, this 8C is also accompanied
by several delivery items including its factory luggage set, three
keys (with two leather carrying pouches), owner's manuals, factory
Alfa Romeo-branded battery charger, factory indoor car cover, and
the factory radio head unit. Limited to only 500 examples and
showing fewer than 20,000 miles on the odometer at the time of
cataloging, this 8C Competizione represents an investment-grade
example of the model that revived Alfa Romeo's performance
reputation in the 21st century.
