1970 Challenger RT/SE
Adventure Classic Cars proudly presents the 1970 Challenger RT/SE
"Special Edition."
This remarkable vehicle stands out as a rare variant among
Challenger muscle cars and is celebrated for its enigmatic history
as a dominant street racer in Detroit during the 1970s.
The legend of the "Black Ghost" tells of a car that mysteriously
appeared and disappeared without warning, earning a reputation for
being undefeated and elusive. Its mystique was heightened by its
owner, Godfrey Qualls, a Detroit police officer who secretly raced
the car. The unique backstory has contributed to the Challenger's
status as one of the most prized and collectible models, especially
since very few R/T SEs were produced with the powerful Hemi engine
in 1970.
The "SE" designation refers to "Special Edition," a package offered
for the 1970 Challenger that introduced luxury enhancements such as
a vinyl roof, additional exterior trim, and an upgraded interior.
These features distinguished the SE from the standard model,
offering both style and comfort.
The Challenger is equipped with the rare and powerful 440 Magnum V8
engine, stamped as a 440 HP Magnum. It is paired with a Dana
rearend to provide superior performance on both street and track.
Believed to be one of only 296 built featuring the 440 Magnum and a
4-speed manual transmission, this car stands out for its
exclusivity.
