This eye-catching 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 has been restored to show quality condition. It has been certified as authentic by Camaro expert Jerry MacNeish of Camaro Hi-Performance on August 15th, 2024. The report and Certificate of Authenticity are included. This example is only of only 7,199 Z28 models produced in 1968. It was built in Norwood, OH and as the NCRS Shipping Data report documents the GM official production date was May 15th, 1968. From the information gathered it was ordered with the following options in order: (AO1)- tinted glass, (G80)- positraction, 3.73 ratio, (J52)- power disc brakes, (M21)- 4-speed transmission, (N30)- deluxe steering wheel, (U63)- AM radio, (Z21)-style trim group, (Z23)- special interior group and (Z28)- special engine and equipment package. As the original Trim Tag indicates it retains its original exterior color of British Green with white stripes and original interior color of black. The car was original delivery dealer was Dworin Chevrolet located in East Hartford, Connecticut. As outlined in the article written by Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine published in January of 2020 this car spent its life in Connecticut. The article is posted in the photo gallery for viewing. The car was purchased by John Bremser and restored by his friend Chuck Miner the owner of Twin Brooks in Suffield, Connecticut. The car was the product of a rotisserie nut and bolt restoration. It was completed of the course of many years resulting in show quality vehicle throughout. John reached out to Jerry MacNeish and Norm Meads to let them know he was going to sell the car. Norm Meads contacted Marc Schiliro the owner of MS CLASSIC CARS and the rest was history. MS CLASSIC CARS purchased this car in January of 2025 and July of 2025 is the first time it's been listed for sale.
The exterior of this 1968 Camaro Z28 is stunning with its original factory design and level of restoration. British Green with white stripes was a very popular color during the 1968 model year and is highly collectible in today's market. During the restoration process any sheet metal that needed attention was addressed. It still retains a lot of its original sheet metal such as the roof, doors and quarters. After the hours of metalwork, followed by applications of filler, high-build primer and countless block sanding sessions, the body was deemed straight enough to apply three coats of RM Diamont base followed by four coats of clear. The stripes were laid out on top and shot in white single stage urethane. The high quality British Green with white stripes paint dresses this car beautifully. Jerry commented in his report that the paint had “nice attention to detail”. The paint was recently detailed to a mirror finish by the team at MS CLASSIC CARS. All of the glass was replaced new including the front windshield, door glass, quarter glass and rear windshield. Everything on the exterior was restored or replaced new including the stainless glass trim, wiper arms, antenna, front grill, headlights, front bumper, fender moldings, driver's side mirror, door handles, lower rocker moldings, rear tail light bezels and lenses, rear bumper, marker lights, and emblems. The car rolls on original 15” rally DF wheels that are dated K18-5-3. The wheels are mounted to Goodyear Wide Tread GT E70-15 white raised letter tires. Everything on the exterior is in working order such as the wipers, headlights, turn signals, brake lights, reverse lights and horn.
The interior of this 1968 Camaro Z28 is simple but sophisticated with its original factory design. It was completely restored in its original color of black which complements the exterior very nicely. Everything in the interior was restored or replaced new such as the headliner, dome light, rear view mirror, dash pad, gauges, vents, simulated wood trim, steering wheel, AM radio, heat controls, door panels, door hardware, bucket seats, seat belts, rear package tray, shifter, pedals and carpeting. It's been outfitted with black rubber floor mats. Everything in the interior was in working order with exception of the AM radio. The trunk compartment was completely restored and refinished in the correct trunk splatter paint. It's equipped with a spare, jack tools and correct style trunk mat.
The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout. The hidden VIN number is the upper cowl area is original and authentic. The original Muncie speedometer hole is stamped out below the windshield wiper motor on the firewall. The firewall, inner fenders and radiator support was painted in the correct shade of black. The firewall was decorated with assembly markings. The car is powered by a 302 V8 CE warranty replacement block with #386 block casting, cast L108 high performance V8. As noted in the Hemmings Muscle Machines, the original owner had the short block replaced under warranty in November 1968. This engine has been in the car for the last 57 years. The 302's cylinder heads were pulled off and reconditioned by Precision Automotive in Simsbury, Connecticut. MS CLASSIC CARS removed the engine during our service process and resealed all the gaskets. The engine is dressed the correct chrome valve covers and air cleaner. Some of the correct parts include the original Delco #1100814 alternator dated 8D18, original Delco #8367 starter motor dated 8E6, original Delco #1111467 distributor dated 8E3. The engine is cooled by the original OD coded radiator dated C of 1968. It's also equipped with the original fan clutch and fan blade. The engine breathes through the correct style manifolds and correct style dual exhaust system. The engine is coupled to the original matching numbers Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission with #P8D26 assembly date, #660 case and VIN stamp #18N432602. The transmission was rebuilt and shifts smoothly through the gears. The power is transferred to the original 12-bolt rear axle with BU0508G1 assembly date and 3.73 positract ratio.
The undercarriage is also highly detailed throughout. This car is worth of displaying with mirrors underneath at the car show. The sub frame was removed, stripped and painted in the correct shade of black. The new floors were installed and also painted in the correct shade of black. Everything underneath has been restored or replaced new such as the steering system, suspension components and braking system.
