This authenic 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS 396 sport coupe was purchased by the seller in 2016, and subsequent refurbishment and modification has included installing a 496ci big-block V8, a 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission, and a UMI Performance suspension kit as well as re-trimming the interior using black TMI seats. The car is finished in red with white stripes and also features a Flowmaster dual exhaust system, Wilwood front disc brakes, and 17″ Rev alloy wheels. The engine is equipped with an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold and cylinder heads, an Edelbrock carburetor and camshaft, and an HEI distributor. Additional interior modifications include aftermarket auxiliary gauges, a custom center console with lighted cup holders, and a Retrosound stereo and speakers. This Chevelle Malibu sport coupe was manufactured in Canada, and it is now offered with service records, spare parts, and a clean Virginia title in the seller’s name.
The body was refinished in red with white stripes and features SS badging, chrome bumpers, and dual exhaust outlets. The seller notes the window and trunk seals were replaced under current ownership along with the taillight wiring harness. Cracks and blemishes in the paint are pictured in the gallery below.
The car rides on a UMI Performance suspension kit with tubular front control arms, adjustable rear coilovers, and front and rear sway bars. Polished 17″ Rev wheels are wrapped in 255/50 BFGoodrich front tires and 275/50 Nitto NT450 rear tires. Braking is handled by power-assisted Wilwood front discs along with rear drums.
The TMI front bucket seats and rear bench are upholstered in black vinyl and accompanied by front shoulder belts, a fabricated center console with lighted cup holders, and black carpeting installed over aftermarket insulation. The RetroSound digital stereo is linked to an 8″ subwoofer and kick-panel speakers. A crack is visible atop the dash pad, and the seller notes the horn does not work.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a column-mounted Bosch tachometer as well as a 120-mph speedometer, an inoperative fuel-level gauge, and warning lamps. Equus gauges for coolant temperature, voltage, and oil pressure are mounted below the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 80k miles, approximately 15k of which were added under current ownership.
The 496ci V8 was rebuilt and installed in 2021 and features an Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum intake manifold and cylinder heads as well as an Edelbrock carburetor, an Edelbrock Rollin’ Thunder camshaft, and an HEI distributor. The seller notes an electric vacuum pump has been installed.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission that was installed in 2018 along with a 12-bolt rear end with a 4.11:1 Positraction limited-slip differential. Flowmaster headers feed into a dual exhaust system with an H-pipe and Flowmaster mufflers.
