Brace yourself-this isn't your average beach buggy. This 1969
Volkswagen Dune Buggy takes the iconic VW Beetle chassis and
launches it into the stratosphere with a 345hp turbocharged 2.5L
Subaru flat-four and full-time AWD courtesy of an Audi Allroad A6
front diff. Yep, you read that right. This thing hooks.
The fiberglass body's been stretched 7 inches and widened 4 for a
tougher, more planted stance. It rides on 33x10.5R15 Extreme
Country tires wrapped around 15-inch U.S. wheels, with coilover
suspension soaking up whatever madness you throw at it. And with
4.86 gears front and rear, it'll claw out of corners with zero
hesitation.
Inside, it's all business-bucket seats, EMPI shifter, billet
steering wheel, chrome tilt column, and a custom console make this
cockpit feel more rally fighter than beach cruiser. The flip-up top
adds a bit of practicality, while a full roll cage and 4-wheel disc
brakes keep things on the sane side of insane.
Power steering and brakes dial in the drive, and an aluminum fuel
cell, new American Autowire harness, and upgraded gauges show the
builder didn't cut corners. Toss in an aftermarket radio and
tachometer, and you've got a brutal, purpose-built bug with more
attitude than most muscle cars.
This isn't just a rare dune buggy-it's a full-blown, road-legal
off-road weapon built to embarrass Jeeps and leave sand rails
choking in its dust.
