This 1987 Buick Regal Grand National Turbo is a fine example of one
of the most iconic performance cars of the 1980s-famed for its
stealthy looks and potent turbocharged powertrain. Powered by the
legendary 3.8L turbocharged V6, this Grand National retains its
original stock chip and stock injectors, preserving the essence of
what made these cars so revered among enthusiasts and collectors
alike.
The car has recently undergone a significant round of maintenance
and mechanical refreshing to keep it running strong. Service
highlights include a new alternator, drive belts, and belt
tensioner pulley, as well as front brake pads and rotors.
Suspension and driveline updates include new tie rods, wheel
bearings, and hubs, ensuring a tight and responsive ride. Two new
tires have been mounted, and additional maintenance includes a
replacement of the engine and transmission mounts for improved
drivability.
Turbo-related components have also seen considerable attention,
with repaired or replaced exhaust manifolds, resealed and
re-secured connections between the turbo and headers, and rewired
turbo fan and fuel pump systems. The intercooler has been removed,
cleaned, and reinstalled with new hoses, clamps, and brackets.
Cooling system updates include new heater hoses, and new battery
terminals have also been installed to ensure solid electrical
performance.
Inside, the car boasts an almost pristine interior with great
condition bumper fillers-details often overlooked in aging Grand
Nationals. While the A/C is currently non-functional due to being
disconnected when a larger turbo was previously installed, the
groundwork is there for it to be reconnected if desired. The radio
is also inoperative at the moment, and the exterior shows some
minor cosmetic needs, particularly on both doors and the
passenger-side front fender.
Overall, this Grand National is a mechanically sound, unmolested
example that has had the right attention paid where it matters
most. With just a few finishing touches, it could be brought to the
next level-or enjoyed now as a raw and authentic slice of
turbocharged American muscle.
