Vehicle Description
This 1965 Griffith Series 200 is #30 of fewer than 200 examples
produced and was reportedly campaigned in SCCA events before it was
purchased by the seller's uncle in 1993. It was acquired by the
seller in 2000. The fiberglass bodywork is finished in red over
gray leather upholstery, and power comes from a 289ci V8 paired
with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include a
Gurney/Eagle intake manifold and cylinder heads with magnesium
valve covers as well as stainless steel headers with side-exit
exhaust pipes, an aluminum radiator with an electric fan, a Fuel
Safe fuel cell, Wilwood disc brakes, 15? Panasport wheels, a
cowl-mounted electrical cutoff switch, a roll bar, three-point
harnesses, and a leather-wrapped MOMO steering wheel. This Griffith
is now offered with records, spare parts, a car cover, car show
trophies, and a clean Florida title in the seller's name.
The Series 200 was based on the TVR Grantura and was built by
Griffith Motors, Inc. of Syosset, New York, between 1964 and 1965.
The fiberglass bodywork on this example is finished in red and
features chrome front and rear bumperettes, "refrigerator grille"
fender vents, a cowl-mounted electrical cutoff switch, aluminum
rocker panel trim, side-exit exhaust pipes, a flip-up fuel cap,
quad taillights, and a rear molded European number plate mount.
Stress cracks in the rear deck below the window and doors, paint
cracks, and other imperfections in the finish can be seen in the
gallery below. Brand new sear windscreen just fitted!
The 15? Panasport Formula-One wheels feature polished lips and are
mounted with 205/55 Dunlop Direzza DZ102 tires. The Griffith
features a tubular steel backbone chassis with a fully independent
suspension. Stopping power is provided by Wilwood disc brakes. A
replacement brake master cylinder was reportedly fitted
approximately 1,500 miles ago.
The cockpit features low-back fixed bucket seats trimmed in gray
leather with red piping. Red carpets line the floors, and
additional equipment includes a rollbar, an open glovebox, and a
Southern Safety Equipment four-point driver's seat harness as well
as a three-point passenger seat unit. There are stains on the
headliner.
The leather-wrapped MOMO steering wheel frames an 8k-rpm
tachometer, a Smiths 160-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges.
Spare Smiths auxiliary gauges are included in the sale and can be
seen in the gallery. The five-digit odometer shows 21k miles, 11k
of which were added under the seller's ownership. Total mileage is
unknown.
The 289ci Ford V8 is fitted with Gurney/Eagle intake manifold and
cylinder heads with magnesium valve covers as well as stainless
steel headers. An engine overhaul is said to have been performed
approximately 1,500 miles ago and included the installation of
replacement bearings, piston rings, valves, gaskets, and seals, an
Edelbrock gear drive kit, and a Holley carburetor. A custom
aluminum radiator with an adjustable fan is fitted along with an
Optima Red Top battery.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual
transmission. A replacement clutch and cylinders were reportedly
installed at the same time as the engine overhaul. A custom fuel
cell with and rollover valve is fitted with a vapor canister to
keep fuel smell out of the cabin.
