The Road Runner was introduced by Chrysler under the Plymouth brand
in 1968 and fit right in with the muscle car era. The idea was to
introduce a mid size muscle car with a powerful motor at a price
point to undercut some of the more expensive offerings like the
Pontiac GTO. To get the name, Plymouth actually had to pay Warner
Brothers $50,000 for the Wile E. Coyote cartoon characters license
and then an additional $10,000 for the "beep beep" horn. This 1974
belongs to the second generation and this year marked a large
redesign with new front end styling among other changes. It is
painted in a bright Blue with the matte Black accents along the
sides and hood. The body is in great shape and the sheet metal is
all good. The chrome on it all looks great and it also has the
Black rear deck lid spoiler. The car has a nice stance and rides on
a set of original style rally wheels with BF Goodrich Radial T/A
tires.
Remove the hood pins and pop the vented hood to reveal the 360 V8
motor that is now positioned underneath. It was originally a 318
powered car but is now sporting the rebuilt 360 that runs great.
When it was done they utilized 2.02 inch valve heads, a Mopar
Performance M1 intake, Mopar Performance Purple camshaft, Mopar
Performance finned valve covers, and an open top air cleaner. The
block, heads and various other components were also painted Blue
for a show ready look. It runs cool thanks to the aftermarket
aluminum radiator with dual electric fans. Paired with the motor is
a 727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission and 8 1/4 inch rear end
which have also been rebuilt. Other nice components include Hooker
headers into dual exhaust and a red top Optima battery.
Moving to the interior you will see it is done in a matching Blue
upholstery which is in great shape. It has high back front bucket
seats that sits to each side of the original center console. It has
the pistol grip shifter and on the surrounding wood trim the car
has been autographed by automobile legend Richard Petty. Some of
that wood trim is also found on the dash and all of it is in good
condition. The dash has a mostly stock layout with its stock gauges
but a second gauge pod has been added below the dash for the
Temp/Amp/Oil pressure gauges. The trunk of the car is nicely
finished out with a stock style mat and it houses a spare.
This is a super neat Mopar that looks and runs great. It comes with
a clean title and a broadcast sheet. Check it out while it is still
available!
It could be yours for $42,000.00!
This vehicle is located outside of Orlando, Florida.
