The Subaru Impreza WRX STi is synonymous with rally racing; the
World Rally eXperimental denotation and Subaru Tecnica
International badge honor the marque's faithful involvement in the
World Rally Championship that would net three manufacturer titles
and 46 rally wins. A homologated road-going WRX STi was released
for the Japan market in 1994, but the hottest version of the
Impreza wouldn't reach North American shores until 2004. Compared
to the more affordable WRX, the STi received a larger 2.5-liter
flat-four engine now making 300 horsepower, a six-speed manual
transmission, larger 17 x 8-inch BBS wheels and Brembo brakes, a
limited-slip differential, and its signature rear spoiler. Subaru
refined the car several times over the second generation STi's
eight-year run, culminating in the distinctive "Hawkeye" facelift.
For 2007, the STi received minor tweaks including revised cylinder
heads for better cooling, a new Torsen limited slip differential,
and higher ratios for second, third, and fourth gears.
This 2007 WRX STi is finished in WR Blue Pearl with Gold wheels, a
combination reminiscent of the Imprezas that propelled Subaru to
rally glory in the early 2000s. Just 800 2007 STis were ordered in
this specification. The sporting interior is classic STi with Blue
Alcantara covering the STi-design front seats, rear seats, and door
panels. This example was sold new at Subaru Santa Monica with the
clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report on file recording a slow but
steady accumulation of miles that only passed the 5,000-mile mark
by the mid-2010s.
Emerging from long-term 17-year original ownership, this WRX STi is
consigned to Broad Arrow's Monterey Jet Center Auction with a
recent detailed service performed by Subaru tuner Yimi Sport Tuning
based in Valencia, California. Subaru specialist Remer Racing
Development in Carson, California also performed an extensive
$6,000 mechanical refresh with brand new OEM parts and mounted a
new set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. With just under 6,200
original miles recorded at the time of cataloging this STi stands
as a truly rare and outstanding example from its era. It offers an
ideal entry into the exciting world of rally-inspired performance
for any serious collector of these newly-emerging collectibles.
