Literature The 1964 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is considered a very
desirable and collectible classic car, the renown Karmann Ghia line
was produced by Volkswagen from 1955 to 1974 and is known for its
stylish, Italian-inspired design by the renown Ghia, combined with
the reliable Volkswagen Beetle chassis. The 1964 model was
available as a coupe or convertible. VW advertising made much about
Karmann's almost hand construction methods, which included filling,
filing and sanding all seams before painting. A delicate blend of
old-world German craftmanship and Italian soul, this car proved
that sports cars were as much about style and grace as they were
about performance and almost twenty years later on 7/31/1974, when
VW halted production, it had proved to be one of the all-time best
selling and most loved sports cars in the world. Previous custom
work included installing a Tri-Mil exhaust system, LED lighting, an
aftermarket sound system, and an EMPI shifter in addition to
replacing the muffler and ignition components. Paint color looks
like 'Manila Yellow', which is a '64 color with optional black top.
The car is also equipped with 15 wheels, four-wheel disc brakes,
and Bilstein front dampers. The car is also equipped with dual-side
mirrors, pop-out rear quarter windows, a vented decklid, and bright
trim. Klassic Rader 15 wheels are mounted with 'Continental
Touring' tires in the front and 'Goodyear Eagle LS' tires in the
rear. Stopping power is provided by discs at each corner, and
Bilstein dampers are fitted up front. The front bucket seats and
rear bench are trimmed in Black vinyl. Modifications also include a
retro-style radio linked to an aftermarket amplifier and speakers
in addition to adding switches for the electric window washer,
power antenna, and backup camera with reverse lights. The two-spoke
steering wheel fronts VDO instrumentation including a 90-mph
speedometer, an analog clock, and a fuel-level gauge. The
replacement dual-port 1.6L flat-four was installed under prior
ownership, and a Tri-Mil exhaust system is fitted. Service since
2022 is said to include replacing engine oil, fuel filter, and
distributor cap, ignition coil, and spark plugs.
