Among Porsche enthusiasts, there is a never-ending debate about
which model is the ultimate open 356. The Speedster has long been
regarded as the most collectible, and does enjoy a certain purity
of line that is very attractive; however, the later Cabriolets
enjoy functional and mechanical updates that make the cars more
pleasurable to use in the real world. Thus, enthusiasts with a
desire to enjoy their cars, will be attracted to the 356C
Cabriolet, whose low and rakish stance, lined top, and wind up
windows represent the ultimate evolution of the open 356.
This 1964 Porsche 356C Cabriolet was completed at the Porsche
factory in Zuffenhausen, Germany on March 2nd, 1964. Very little is
known about the Sky Blue Cabriolet's first fifty years of
existence, other than that it must have lived a charmed life, as is
evident by the fact that it still retains its original engine,
transmission, and laser straight body panels. Discovered in a
Connecticut barn in 2014, it was immediately delivered to Porsche
Specialist, Aase Sales in Columbus, OH. The team, led by owner Ron
Thomas, documented and disassembled the 356 prior to embarking on a
detailed 2-year restoration process. Stripped to bare metal, the
Cabriolet received new paint, in its original color of Sky Blue, to
its original coachwork, along with new or reconditioned parts from
Ron Thomas' large inventory of OEM Porsche stock. The car's owner,
a shoe industry veteran, sourced the highest quality leather he
could find for the cars born with Red interior, providing for an
intoxicating combination of touch and smell to all covered
surfaces.
Upon completion, the 356 Cabriolet won 1st place at the 43rd Annual
Connecticut Valley Region Porsche Club of America Concours
d'Elegance in 2016. Having covered just over 300 miles since, this
beautiful example of Porsche's endearing 356 model presents itself
in both concours-show and driven-event ready condition. The most
recent owner acquired the car in early 2022, adding just a little
over 1,000 miles to the odometer now reading 1,532 miles.
Upon arrival at Canepa, a detailed inspection revealed an exemplary
level of workmanship throughout, and the Cabriolet was road tested
to confirm correct operation of all systems. Included in the sale
is a comprehensive pre-delivery servicing of all mechanical and
electrical components, ensuring a turn-key experience for its next
caretaker. In addition a full "Canepa Difference" concours-level
detail, including hand cleaning of the entire underside of the car,
engine bay, trunk and interior will be performed, delivering
Canepa's promise of a car that is both mechanically ready for
driving enjoyment, and cosmetically fit to grace any show lawn.
