There are restomods, and then there are statements-this 1963
Chevrolet Corvette Split Window is the latter. Conceived as a
fantasy project where GM set its sights on Europe, this one-off
build was designed with Ferrari, Jaguar, and Mercedes in mind. The
result? A coach-built Corvette reimagined through a
high-performance, European lens with a fit and finish that rivals
anything on the concours lawn.
Under the skin lies a 620hp Don Hardy-built 416ci LS3, mated to a
Bowler-prepped T56 six-speed, all planted on a Roadster Shop
FastTrack chassis with Penske coilovers and 14-inch Baer brakes. A
Holley Dominator ECU, dual drive-by-wire throttle bodies, and a
custom-fabricated stainless exhaust system ensure this car doesn't
just cruise-it hunts. The handling? Razor sharp, thanks to an IRS
setup and power rack-and-pinion steering.
The body's been subtly and expertly reshaped-thinned bumpers, a
smoothed cowl, a reworked rear valance, and fender gills add
definition, while the PPG Ferrari Grigio Alloy paint screams
sophistication. One-off 18x8 and 18x12 Atomic Machine wheels tuck
under custom tubs, and touches like Porsche 356 mirrors, Jaguar
handles, and a modified '67 grille suggest a car with international
aspirations and OEM-like restraint.
Inside, it's pure craftsmanship. Chuck Rowland's full custom
interior blends with a bespoke HRG dash and functioning glove box.
Nardi steering, Vintage Air, power everything, and a hidden sound
system create an environment that's more Ferrari GT than factory
GM. Dakota Digital gauges and a Baer ReMaster cylinder add modern
precision behind the scenes.
Recognized across the country, this Vette has racked up awards from
GoodGuys, Triple Crown of Rodding, and even earned a Chip Foose
Design Award-not to mention landing the cover of Wheelhub. Built by
Hot Rod Garage in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, this isn't just a car.
It's a benchmark. A split-window built for the Autobahn, born from
American muscle and shaped by European class.
