Vehicle Description
We here at Cruisin Classics are excited to present this
numbers-matching, low-mileage 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28! If you've
been looking for a '70 Z/28, this truly exceptional example is
going to get your heart beating faster! This car was originally
purchased by Frank Spena on 9/29/70 from Elm Chevrolet Company in
Elmira, New York - and we know this because we have the original
dealer invoice! We also have a receipt and odometer mileage
statement from when Mr. Spena sold the car to its second owner,
Thomas Viglione, in 1973. It appears to us from the service
receipts that we have for the car that when Mr. Viglione passed on,
the car stayed in his family until at least 2016. We have the
original Protect-O-Plate booklet, but the plate is gone. Mr.
Viglione must have realized the importance of this, as he ordered a
replacement plate from GM. The booklet it is in is stamped
"replacement," and the plate has his name on it. When Mr. Viglione
bought the car in 1973, it had 29,192 miles on it, and 52 years
later, it has only 34,738 miles, which the title states are actual.
Judging from the condition and originality of the car, as well as
mileage noted on some of the service receipts, we believe that the
mileage is actual as well. Let's dig a little deeper into this
classic Z/28.....
This '70 Z/28 comes to us dressed in its original color - Cranberry
Red with black hood and decklid stripes. We believe that the car
has been repainted at some point in its life, but we have no
receipt for it. Regardless, it is an exceptionally nice paint job -
deep and glossy with a great shine and only minuscule
imperfections. At the front end, you'll find a black eggcrate
grille with Z/28 badging, single round headlights, a mirror-finish
chrome bumper, and a black chin spoiler. The side view of the car
really captures the lines of its iconic body style. On display from
the side are dual body-color sport mirrors, bright window trim,
color-keyed door handle inserts, Z/28 fender badging, and chrome
rocker molding. The stance is perfect as it sits atop grey 5-spoke
factory wheels all wrapped in Goodyear Polyglas GT tires. At the
rear of the car are a 3-piece high rear spoiler, circular
Corvette-style taillights with bright trim rings, and a chrome
bumper that's just as nice as the one up front. Peeking out from
under the bumper are a set of chrome exhaust tips that emit a
heavenly rumble. A quick look underneath reveals a very clean
undercarriage with a newer-looking gas tank, newer brake lines,
newer exhaust, and both front and rear sway bars.
Lift the hood to find an impeccably clean and organized engine bay
that is home to the original numbers-matching high-performance LT1
V-8 (factory rated 360 hp and 380 lb/ft of torque). Original parts
are numerous and include the heads, 4-barrel carburetor, cast
exhaust manifolds, distributor, 7-blade fan assembly, fan shroud,
alternator, water pump, complete smog system with GF diverter,
crankshaft pulley, and brake booster. That's not all, though. The
V-8 is mated to a numbers-matching Muncie M20 4-speed manual
transmission that puts the power to the pavement via a
numbers-matching 12-bolt rear axle with 3.73 positraction gears.
Needless to say, if you're a purist who's looking for a very
original car, you're going to absolutely love this Z/28!
When you swing open the driver's door, the courtesy light pops on
to illuminate a beautiful Sandlewood standard interior, just as it
was originally built with. The door panels are OEM-correct and in
very good condition with crank windows and a driver's mirror
toggle. A bright Fisher Body sill plate and newer tan hook & loop
carpet welcome you inside for a seat in one of the Sandlewood vinyl
bucket seats. Both the front buckets and the rear seats (bucket
bottoms with bench back) are in excellent condition with no notable
imperfections. Rising from the center tunnel just ahead of the
front seats is a correct Hurst shifter with a black pattern ball
and black rubber boot. Overhead is a tight, perforated tan vinyl
headliner and shoulder safety restraints for the front passengers.
The Sandlewood padded dash is in excellent condition, and we have a
receipt showing it was purchased in 2007 by a member of the
Viglione family. Ahead of the driver is a black 2-spoke steering
wheel with a working horn and a faux wood center insert. The wheel
frames a curved gauge cluster with a faux burled wood bezel with
bright trim. There are gauges for fuel, amps, and temp as well as a
150mph speedometer, an 8K tach, and a non-working analog clock.
Also within the bezel are controls for the lights and working
2-speed wipers. Below to the left are controls for the heat and fan
(inoperative), and to the right is what appears to be the original
AM push-button radio (also inoperative). There is a speaker on the
dashboard, and the rear package tray is uncut. Ahead of the front
passenger is a glovebox adorned with a "Camaro" badge that contains
an original owner's manual in an original storage bag. Back in the
trunk is a vinyl mat, a full matching spare with the correct jack,
and a car cover in a storage bag.
If you're a fan of the second-generation Z/28's you're going to
want to give this car some serious consideration. This car features
a numbers-matching engine and drivetrain, loads of original parts,
incredibly low mileage, and some unbelievably cool original
documentation! You'll have to look far and wide to find another '70
Z/28 that's on par with this one! Give our staff a call today and
be the lucky individual who gets to call this highly collectible
Camaro their own!
