In 1959, Chevrolet cleaned up some of the Corvette's 1958
affectations, getting rid of the waffled hood and the overdone
chrome strips on the trunk. Sales remained steady at 9,670, at the
base price was $3,875, up about $300 from the year before. Engines
for the 1959 Chevrolet Corvette ranged from the base 283-cubic inch
V8, with 230 horsepower, to the Rochester fuel-injected
290-horsepower setup. Door panels were redesigned to increase elbow
room, instruments were changed to make them more legible, with
tachometers now reading to 7,000rpm. A storage bin was added
underneath the passenger's grab bar, which was more padded.
Four-speed cars now had a "T" shift handle with positive lockout
from reverse gear.
This handsome restored Corvette is finished strikingly in Tuxedo
Black with Inca Silver cove and a black convertible top. The
classic styling is complemented by a set of wide whitewall Coker
Classic radial tires that appear period correct, but with enhanced
drivability. The red interior pops against the Black exterior color
and is restored to stock specifications, including the optional
factory Wonderbar signal-seeking radio.
