Vehicle Description
1978 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
"Corvette performance has been improved with a dual snorkel air
cleaner and new low restriction exhaust system and mufflers on the
available L82 350ci V8 engine. The transverse rear leaf spring in
the independent rear suspension has been widened to reduce stress.
Two new transmissions were introduced in the 1978 Corvette. A new
4-speed manual transmission is standard. A new automatic
transmission is available for the L82 350ci. V8 engine. To
celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Corvette, the Silver
Anniversary emblems are mounted on the nose and rear deck." Thx

For consignment, a 1978 Chevrolet Corvette coupe showing 2,910
miles, but the true miles are unknown. This car not only has a
period correct L82 V8, but lots of new parts both inside and out to
bring it up to roadworthy and show status.
Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by
the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws
to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public
highways in your area.*
Exterior
Like a fresh snowfall, Classic White coats the gentle hills and
valleys of the Corvette's body like a gleaming blanket. No chrome
bumpers or stainless trim to distract from the monochromatic
coverage, but new emblems, including the 25th anniversary seal on
the back, look sharp and modest black bumper guards create visual
bookends to the flowing white fiberglass. The coke bottle profile
is unobstructed by door handles, this one is on the upper edge of
the door and flush, while the requisite fender vent is molded
seamlessly into the sides. 15-inch slot wheels are in great shape
with some curb rash on one. They are wrapped in newer tires, mid
2023 date code on front, mid 2024 date code on back. Aside from
that wheel damage, we could find no other exterior
imperfections.
Interior
If you were expecting red, you'll be pleasantly surprised to find
Dark Blue on the interior where new carpet sets the palette which
is also found on the door panels, both in great shape. The leather
bucket seats are in nice condition also with only some wrinkles on
the driver's lower indicating any use at all. The blue steering
wheel shows minor use as well, but the dash, according to our
consignor, is new and absolutely looks fresh. The aeronautical
gauge cluster in the center stack is clean and hovers over an
AM/FM/CD radio with Bluetooth, but it's back to the 70's for the
A/C control panel with sliding levers and old school GM font. Due
to exposure and use, the center console faceplate is usually
scratched and worn, but this one presents cleanly and of course,
housing the ball handled shifter, lying in wait. Blue carpet
uniformly covers the rear cargo area.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a clean and blue accented 350ci L82 V8 with newer
items on board including cam, lifters, timing chain, water pump,
fuel pump, carb and fuel lines, starter, hoses and belts. A
remanufactured alternator has also been added. It's connected to a
TH400 3-speed automatic sending power to the rear axle with 3.36
gears with Positraction. Power disc brakes are supplied front and
rear.
Undercarriage
Super clean underneath for this American icon with no errant fluids
nor surface rust to speak of. The knuckles are clear and there is
no street grime build up anywhere. The newer dual exhaust flows
from the X-pipe into a stainless system including the mufflers
which sends out short exhaust tips that point downwards. There is
no catalytic converter on the car. On board, we have new tie rods,
shocks, springs, idler arm, and power steering hoses and the back
includes a sway bar and new U-joints.
Drive-Ability
We do what thousands of people before us have done, take a seat in
the Corvette and immediately imagine we're in a race car because
all the tech, speed, and modern commuter cars can't provide this
feeling of analogue engagement with a sleek sports car. Once on the
tarmac, the well sorted C3 performs well providing good
acceleration and handling like the legendary chassis it is. We note
the A/C and clock are not working but all other items do as
intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions
were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee
these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
If you've been waiting for the right C3 to come along, one you
could drive and show with confidence, this '78 is your golden
ticket in white! It's a virtually turn key, clean and well sorted
example that is ready to be enjoyed. It's even had a recent tune up
and four wheel alignment! Winter is months away, (as we write
this), but your snow white chariot is ready for a Corvette
summer!
