This Corvette fuelie convertible represents the pinnacle of performance for 1963. The L84 fuel injected engine was Chevrolet’s most powerful offering that year with a factory rating of 360 hp. Combined with a 4-speed transmission, it delivers a superb classic Corvette driving experience. With plenty of recent work including a rebuilt fuel injection unit, this numbers-matching example accentuates that point.
Built in late October 1962, this refurbished C2 is finished in beautiful Sebring Silver (code 941) which was a one-year-only color, and the only color that cost extra (very unusual for the era). The car looks amazing, having been repainted and receiving a new black soft top. All the chrome is in great condition as are the hood inserts, rocker trim, lenses, bezels, and emblems. A set of older knock-off wheels has been fitted along with BF Goodrich tires from 2022.
The engine is the legendary fuel injected 327ci 360hp package (L84). The block shows casting number 3782870 while the stamping pad shows an assembly date of 10-12-62 with the correct RF suffix code. The pad also includes the matching partial VIN. The fuel injection unit was recently rebuilt and looks like new. Continuing down the drivetrain leads to the T10 4-speed transmission and rear end with independent suspension. The manual brakes and steering are all in good operational condition too. Additionally, this C2 has seen a great deal of additional mechanical work; motor mounts, wheel cylinders, idler pulley, leaf spring bushings, steering column bearings, and more.
The black vinyl interior is a perfect contrast with the exterior. It is in good condition throughout including the seats, carpet, door panels, and dash pads. The headlight motors work smoothly and all exterior lighting is operational. The speedo, tach, gauges, dash lights, courtesy lights, horn, wipers, AM/FM radio, heater/defroster, and parking brake are all functional as well. The clock was rebuilt by The Clock Works retains its original style movement.
Mid-year fuelies have proven to be a good investment, and examples like this one can be hard to find. It is certainly a beautiful car with a numbers-matching drivetrain, but is also so much fun to drive! It really captures the spirit of these old Corvettes. Let this one show you what they are all about.
