1974 Mercury Montego MX Brougham - 10,628 Actual Miles - One Owner - Time Capsule Condition
This exceptional one-owner 1974 Mercury Montego MX Brougham was purchased new from Erich-Henkel Lincoln Mercury in Battle Creek, Michigan by Keith Laverne and John William Harvey. The car was sparingly driven and currently shows only 10,628 original miles. It has been preserved in remarkable condition, having spent its entire life in controlled indoor storage under the care of the original family. It even retains its original tires, which further confirms the authenticity of the mileage. This is a true time capsule-a legitimate "cream puff"-and one of the cleanest examples you're likely to find. The car was dealer undercoated when new, further protecting its pristine condition. After sitting in storage for years, we serviced the fuel system with a new fuel tank and pump, changed the oil, and brought it back to life. It now runs and drives just like it did when it left the showroom floor.

EXTERIOR
The exterior is completely original and presents beautifully. The paint is factory-applied and in excellent condition with only a few minor chips that are barely noticeable. The chrome shines brilliantly without any pitting or corrosion, and the vinyl top is flawless. All the trim, glass, and hardware are in excellent shape. There are no signs of prior bodywork or repairs. The only noted issue is the driver-side mirror glass, which has come loose and will need to be replaced.

INTERIOR
Inside, the car is just as impressive. The interior appears nearly untouched, with seats that look like new. The headliner is perfect, and the dash is free from any cracks or fading. All of the gauges are clear, functioning properly, and present as they did when new. The original radio works great, and even the original floor mats are in excellent condition. The carpeting is original and clean, and the back seat looks like it was never used. Even the cigarette lighter has never been touched-an amazing detail that speaks to how gently this car was treated.

UNDER THE HOOD
Under the hood, the car retains its original engine with factory decals, paint markings, and even the original carburetor with its tag. The engine bay presents as untouched and extremely correct. The factory air conditioning system still holds its original R12 charge, and the compressor cycles on when activated. While it doesn't blow very cold, the fact that it still holds pressure after all these years is incredible. There is no smoke or abnormal engine noise, and the car runs strong with only a slight hesitation on initial takeoff, likely due to the idle screw needing a small adjustment. It's equipped with optional power front disc brakes and power steering. The heater core hoses may have been replaced at some point, but we can't confirm that with certainty.

UNDER THE BODY
The underbody is in fantastic condition thanks to the factory-applied Poly-Gard undercoating. The floor pans, rocker panels, frame welds, and pinch welds all appear like new. A new fuel tank and sending unit were installed to ensure clean fuel delivery and reliable operation. It's clear that this car was stored with great care and avoided exposure to the elements.

ON THE ROAD
Out on the road, the Montego performs beautifully. It shifts smoothly, runs strong, and tracks straight. The suspension is tight with no unwanted noises, and the brakes feel firm and responsive. While the original tires are still mounted and add to the car's authenticity, they are flat-spotted from sitting and will need to be replaced if regular driving is intended. All interior systems-including the lights, horn, radio, and wipers-are functioning properly, making for an enjoyable and easy driving experience.

This is a museum-quality survivor with outstanding originality, low documented mileage, and excellent overall condition. Whether you're a serious collector looking to preserve it as-is or someone who simply appreciates unrestored 1970s American classics, this Montego is the real deal. It's an extraordinary opportunity to own a virtually untouched piece of Mercury history. The car is ready for its next chapter and looking for a new owner who will appreciate and care for it as much as the first did. Clean title in hand. Don't miss your chance-cars like this rarely come to market.
