1973 Firebird Formula — finished in stunning FLORENTINE RED!
This one started life as a real-deal Formula 455, factory 4-speed with air conditioning — already a rare setup back then. According to PHS, only 227 were made like this.
But now, it’s been transformed into a proper restomod, built to drive, enjoy, and impress. As said above, not for the purist looking for old school.
So for the modernized part:
The engine is a rebuilt LS1 with factory pistons and rods, all standard size. It’s got King bearings, Hastings rings, a Melling oil pump, and a GM LS Hot cam paired with beehive springs. The heads are remanufactured LS6 243s, sealed up with GM gaskets and ARP head bolts. Fueling comes from Bosch 36lb injectors, and it breathes through a FiTech intake, fuel rail, and throttle body.
Air conditioning runs off a Sanden 508 compressor with ICT Billet brackets. It’s all managed by a professionally tuned GM 0411 PCM, with a rev limit set at 6000 rpm, and wired up cleanly with a Painless standalone harness.
She’s riding on Nitto tires wrapped around 17-inch Rally wheels by YearOne — fronts are 245/45/17, rears 285/40/17. Suspension by Hotchkis, and four-wheel Wilwood brakes with slotted and drilled rotors all around the corners. Borgeson quick ratio steering box
Hotchkis Front Sway bar (biggest one available) Hotchkis shocks. The car is breathing through full dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers, stainless steel factory style pypes tips. She roars like a beast!
The transmission is a T56 magnum 6 speed stage 2 clutch that will allow both fun acceleration and low rpm cruising on the highway.
If you know your Firebirds, you’ll know 1973 was kind of a sweet spot. It was the last year before the big federal bumpers took over, so it kept those clean, aggressive second-gen lines. And the Formula? That hood with the twin scoops wasn’t just for looks — it was fiberglass and gave the car its own attitude. No shaker, no nonsense. Just pure Pontiac performance identity.
I’m proud of the car, but I’m even prouder that Andrew spotted it right away for what it is — something special. That kind of instinct can’t be taught.
