Vehicle Description
This 1965 Superformance Cobra MKIII is a gorgeous, bespoke
factory-built Shelby Cobra replica by the only manufacturer
authorized, endorsed, and licensed by Carroll Shelby to reproduce
his iconic 60s race cars. When it comes to Shelby Cobra replicas,
Superformance is, without a doubt, the absolute best Cobra replica
money can buy. What separates Superformance from the rest is the
fact that it's the only builder authorized, endorsed, and licensed
by Carroll Shelby. Furthermore, Superformance Cobras are not "Kit
Cars!" Unlike the lower-end Cobras that were literally bought in a
zillion pieces and assembled by some guy in his backyard on the
weekend, Superformance Cobras are hand built in a factory by
experienced artisans and craftsman and are delivered as
fully-assembled, factory-painted rolling chassises, just waiting
for the installation of an engine, transmission, wheels, and tires.
Everything else, from the front and rear independent suspension,
Wilwood braking system, rack and pinion steering setup, limited
slip rear differential, to even the gorgeous leather-trimmed
interior are all factory installed. On top of that, Superformance
is known for using the highest quality parts such as Wilwood and
unlike many the cheaper, lower quality kit cars that repurpose
parts from junkyards and salvage cars, Superformance always builds
its rolling chassises with brand new parts. They don't creak,
squeak, and or rattle either; these cars are hands down the best
driving Cobra money can buy. Simply put, when it comes to Cobra
replicas, there's Superformance and then there is the rest. This
particular Superformance MKIII Cobra has been equipped with a Ford
Racing 392 cubic inch V8 fed by a Holley single 4 barrel carburetor
that together were said to have been rated at 475 horsepower when
new. Exhaust exits the Ford built V8 via a set of of tubular
headers and generate an exhilarating sound out of the ceramic
coated side-exit exhaust pipes. The engine also features an MSD
ignition system for increased reliability as well as a gorgeous
Cobra dress up kit comprised of a Cobra emblazoned air cleaner and
Cobra branded valve covers. The 392 V8 is backed by a Tremec 5
Speed Manual transmission that makes this Shelby Cobra a truly
extraordinary car to drive. Power is sent from the Tremec 5 speed
to a limited slip rear differential to help ensure that you'll be
able to keep the rubber to the pavement. Like all Superformance
Cobras, this particular MKIII comes equipped with 4 wheel Wilwood
power disc brakes so you have plenty of stopping power which is
especially important with 475 horsepower found under the hood. The
ride in this Shelby Cobra is superb thanks to the fully independent
front and rear suspension complete with custom crafted coil-over
shocks. Riding on a set of 245/60R15 radial tires up front and
295/50R15 in the rear, all of which are mounted on Halibrand-style
aluminum pin drive knock off wheels, this '65 Shelby handles
extremely well while retaining an outstanding period-correct look.
Other exterior options include a driver's side roll bar hoop, hood
scoop, quick-jack bumperettes, a driver's side mirror, windshield
wipers, wing windows, and a LeMans-style gas filler cap. Should you
need it, this '65 Cobra MKIII also comes with a set of removable
side windows as well as a removable black soft top. The hand laid
factory-built fiberglass body is beefed up with steel
reinforcements and has been factory finished in 2-stage
basecoat/clearcoat Grigio Silverstone urethane paint accented with
painted black racing stripes as well as racing roundrel decals and
period-correct racing inspired sponsorship decals. The interior of
this 1965 Superformance Cobra MKIII is equally stunning! The
adjustable driver seat and passenger seat were hand made and are
trimmed in German specification black leather that is both
comfortable and beautiful. The driver and passenger are secured
with latch and link style seat belts that provide a certain piece
of mind for the driver and passenger. A wood-trimmed steering wheel
and racing style shifter further add to the period correct,
racing-inspired build and make the car especially charming. The
floor, center console, side panels, and rear firewall are fully
covered in black carpeting, which is frequently overlooked and
missed on amateur Cobra builds. The black leather-trimmed dash
houses a bevy of gauges including a reverse-counter 180 MPH Smith
speedometer, Smith 8,000 RPM tachometer, Smith oil temperature
gauge, Smith oil pressure gauge, Smith engine temperature gauge,
Lucas Amp gauge, and Smith fuel gauge. The dash is finished off
with heater controls, lighting controls, and a Carroll Shelby
autographed locking glovebox door. Whether you're an established
enthusiast looking for the ultimate driving machine or you're
buying your very first collector car, this 1965 Superformance Cobra
MKIII would make an excellent choice. Give Ellingson's a call today
