Vehicle Description
1989 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Flare Side Pickup
"It's one superlative truck. The best engineered, best looking
pickup in Chevrolet history. The hardest working. And the best
built. This new generation Chevrolet full size pickup was
completely redesigned in model year 1988, (the year sales increased
by 25%). And it's built in new assembly plants, with new
technology, by people with a renewed dedication to quality." From
the 1989 Chevy truck brochure.
For consignment, a 1989 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 flare side pickup
truck showing 181,889 miles, but the true miles are unknown. Nearly
every inch of this truck and every item has been restored,
everything from the paint, to the engine, components, lights,
exhaust, interior, and so much more! It's a Florida transplant,
having been brought to the Northeast region in 2021.
Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by
the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws
to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public
highways in your area.*
Exterior
The lowered profile is the first thing you notice, then the two
stage Mesa Brown Metallic registers, followed by twin wide black
stripes that cover the cowl hood and return on the tailgate and
roll pan. Black and brown are a theme here with black highlights
that include the flat black grille, chin spoiler, door handles,
step covers, and rough coated bed lining. Contrasting those colors
are clear lenses in the marker lights up front and the Altezza
style tail lights out back. 15-inch American Racing Wheels carry
275/60R15's with a mid 2020 date code, planting the truck squarely
on the road and SS badges on all four corners hint at performance
aspirations, along with the twin chrome exhaust pipes out back. A
plastic weaved box is in the bed for enclosed storage and it wears
a pair of wired tail lights. The paint and trim are excellent on
the truck and we could not find any glaring exterior
imperfections.
Interior
If you want to get down, you gotta have brown, and this interior is
replete with varying shades of saddle and brown starting on the
door panels where numerous materials, panels and colors create
handsome gateways to the cab, and both are spotless. Awaiting
riders is a vinyl bench seat, vertically stitched and showing just
a touch of compression on the driver's side, but otherwise clean
and intact. A black steering wheel matches the black casing for the
instrument cluster which has the standard package including an 80
mph speedometer. A water gauge has been added on the A-pillar and a
Garmin nav unit on the dash. Moving right, we see the integrated
AM/FM radio and A/C panel, then it's back to brown, framing an
upgraded AM/FM/CD radio over added water temp and oil pressure
gauges under the dash. With the shifter on the column, the floor is
open and nicely blanketed in brown carpet while the ceiling is a
mix of tan velour and an overhead shelf and console in saddle.
Drivetrain
A clean 454ci V8 resides under the hood and enjoys a Pro Comp
intake manifold holding a 4-barrel carburetor. It's mated to a
rebuilt TH400 3-speed automatic sending power to the 10 bolt axle
with 3.08 gears. Power disc brakes for the front, power drums for
the back. According to our consignor, the brake system, radiator,
A/C system, alternator, power steering parts, belts, hoses, and
water pump all have been replaced.
Undercarriage
The truck has been lowered two inches and suspension consists of
coil springs in front and leaf springs in the back. It's clean
underneath with some residual oil and minimal surface rust. The
dual exhaust runs in tandem, meeting Flowmaster mufflers before
going opposite directions out back to split the chrome exhaust
tips. There is no catalytic converter on board.
Drive-Ability
We're truck fans here at the mall, and several cast their vote for
lowered trucks over lifted trucks. This 454 powered flare side
starts up with gusto and accelerates with authority, all while
tracking straight and handling better than your average Silverado.
We note the A/C compressor cycles on and off, the speedometer and
odometer are not working, and the brake warning light is on. Beyond
that, all functions operated as intended. While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
Touches of old and new, great paint, and a wicked lowered profile
makes this truck an instant head turner. The truck has seen no
winters and no rain according to our consignor, and it's up to you
to keep that streak alive! But we can't help but think this would
make a heckuva great daily driver and we'll save the winter beater
for harsher weather.
