Description:
This 1964 Studebaker Avanti is one of 1,833 R2 examples produced
for the 1963 and 1964 model years and is among just 809 Avantis
sold for the 1964 model year. It is powered by a
Paxton-supercharged 289ci V8 linked with a three-speed automatic
transmission and a limited-slip differential, and it is finished in
maroon over red vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes a dual exhaust
system, power-assisted front disc brakes, power steering,
spoke-style wheel covers, a push-button AM radio, woodgrain
interior trim, and a Beauty Vanity.
Interior:
The front bucket seats and rear bench are trimmed in red vinyl
upholstery. Aircraft-throttle-inspired climate controls on the
center console are complemented by overhead switchgear for lighting
and fan control. The two-spoke steering wheel frames a tachometer
with a 5k-rpm redline accompanied by a 160-mph speedometer, a
clock, and readouts for coolant temperature, amperage, fuel level,
oil pressure, and intake-manifold pressure.
Exterior:
The Raymond Loewy-designed fiberglass body was repainted in maroon
approximately 25 years ago. Exterior details include an
asymmetrical hood bulge, polished trim, dual side mirrors, dual
exhaust outlets, and wraparound chrome bumpers with rubber guards.
The 15? steel wheels wear spoke-style covers and are mounted with
205/75 Nexen N'Priz AH5 thin-whitewall tires. The car is equipped
with power steering, and braking is provided by power-assisted
front discs and rear drums.
Drivetrain:
The Jet Thrust 289ci V8 is equipped with a Paxton supercharger and
was factory rated at 290 horsepower. Power is routed to the rear
wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a
Twin-Traction limited-slip differential.
