For Sale: 1968 Chevrolet Camaro in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1968 Chevrolet Camaro Hardtop

In 1966 Mustangs were flying out of Ford showrooms, and Chevrolet needed an answer. After many secret meetings, and covert internal press events, engineers unveiled the official name for what had been known up to this point as XP-836. Camaro was the chosen namesake, and immediately the question became "but what does it mean?". This question has no official linguistic answer, but as Chevrolet marketing people would answer "It's an animal that eats Mustangs!"

For consignment, a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro hardtop showing 86,693 miles, but the true miles are unknown. Nineteen colors were available for Camaros in 1968 and this one wears two stage Lemans Blue with added stripes.

Exterior
Under our lights, the Lemans Blue looks almost electric, covering this epic pony car, which has a high stance above its 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels. Staggered size tires put a bit more meat in the back and enhance the rear view of the car which also includes straight exhaust pipes and standard two part tail lights that include the clear reverse light. Wide black stripes adorn the car, covering the nose and cowl hood, skipping the roof, then continuing on the deck lids, and over the rear spoiler. Z/28 badges have been added to this sport coupe while single headlight bookend a black grille with no emblem present. Imperfections include pitting on the tail light bezels, rust through on a door and other panels, prominent bubbling throughout, scratches, chipping, and rust on the decklid edge.

Interior
Cracking on the armrest and general patina is found on the black door panels which wear a Camaro badge on the textured plastic insert. The bucket seats with headrests up front are in generally good condition with an unfortunate split in the driver's side lower, while the rear bench, also in black vinyl, is in good shape. A Grant GT steering wheel presents to the driver, sharing the column with a tachometer in front of the classic twin gauges on the dash, while a vacant hole and broken switch is situated to the left. On the right, the aging center stack is backed by simulated wood and holds a vent, vent controls, and a gap for the a radio. A tri-pack gauge pod is mounted just below it. Faded loop carpet on the transmission hump houses a Hurst shifter while above us, the headliner presents in very good condition. The trunk is barren and shows some surface rust.

Drivetrain
Under the hood, a clean 283ci V8 is present with chrome valve covers, an Edelbrock intake, and a Holley 4-barrel carburetor. It is backed by an era-correct Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission sending power to the 12 bolt axle with 3.07 conventional gears. Power brakes are configured here as discs up front and drums in back.

Undercarriage
Driver quality underneath with plenty of surface rust, oil present including oil sling on the pipes, and some rust on the bottom of the core support. Headers head up the exhaust system which is dual and flows through turbo mufflers before snaking to clean steel tips out back. Suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs in the back.

Drive-Ability
