The 356SC is the top-of-the-line with the most powerful engine with
95 horsepower, the best manual transmission type 741, and a
four-wheel disc braking system built from late 1963 to 1965. This
example is a numbers-matching 356SC Coupe, confirmed by the Porsche
Kardex, with three owners from new. Finished in a classic color
combination of Silver Metallic over Red leatherette, the Porsche
356SC Coupe represents the final and most advanced iteration of the
356 series.
This 356SC is in exceptional cosmetic and mechanical condition. The
paintwork is in beautiful condition, with excellent gaps and panel
fit. The upholstery is in extraordinary condition and features
charcoal German square weave carpets with Red upholstery, a VDM
steering wheel, VDO instrumentation, and a Porsche delete radio
plate. The 4.5" x 15" chrome wheels are mounted to Vredestein
Sprint Classic 165 15 tires (date coded 2024). The undercarriage is
solid and rust-free, and European Collectibles has recently
stripped the complete undercarriage to steel, undercoated in Wurth
German undershoot to factory specification. The suspension
components have also been stripped and painted as per factory
specifications.
Originally imported by Max Hoffman and sold by Pray Automobile
Corporation in Greenwich, Connecticut, to the first owner, William
Bowers, on July 7, 1964. The original Service Booklet documents
regular maintenance at the selling dealer from July 7, 1964, to
November 26, 1969, when the odometer read 23,008 miles. By 1990,
the 356SC was acquired by the second long-term owner, Mr. Denison,
who entrusted Performance Plus Automotive with a major engine
service at 78,620 miles. A decade later, a comprehensive
restoration was undertaken by a marque specialist in New Jersey.
The work included stripping the body to bare steel, a complete
repaint in Silver Metallic, and reassembling with all-new trim,
rubber seals, and chrome. The interior was reupholstered using
correct German materials, while the original engine was rebuilt
with 86 mm pistons and cylinders.
In 2021, the past owner performed the following work, including the
installation of new valve covers and new hubcaps, the starter was
rebuilt, new window gaskets were installed, the fuel pump and
carburetors were rebuilt, and a new battery was installed.
Recently, European Collectibles tuned the engine and underwent a
complete safety inspection. This 356 runs exceptionally well with a
ton of performance, and it is a pleasure to drive!
Mechanically powered by the numbers-matching 1600cc SC engine (Type
616/16) producing 95 horsepower, paired with a 4-speed manual
transmission (Type 714) with a four-wheel disc braking system. It
is complete with the original purchase order when it was sold on
July 2, 1964, spare keys, the original Owner's Manual, Porsche
Service Booklet, Porsche Kardex confirming the matching driveline,
tool kit, jack, spare wheel, and 35 years of service records. This
is a rare opportunity to acquire a well-documented and highly
collectible Porsche 356SC Coupe finished in a classic color
combination.
