History of Chevrolet's Corvette Model:
The last of its kind in front-engine format, with history-making
transformations coming for the Chevrolet Corvette, engineers seemed
to go all out with a swan song for the C7 Generation Corvette in
2019. It was the final year before the debut of the C8 mid-engined
Stingray would hit showrooms in 2020, so having already delivered a
very well-reviewed and extremely powerful Z06 just 4 years earlier,
how could they outdo themselves once again? Well, bring back their
goliath, the Corvette ZR1 of course!
If you take a look back at the C6 ZR1, which ended production in
2013, it was the first ever Corvette to house a supercharger under
the hood, and amazed major online publications with 638 hp, carbon
fiber body panels, ceramic brakes, and a 205mph top speed! Corvette
engineers had their work cut out for them. Luckily, the modern C7
Z06 platform was the ideal candidate for honing further
improvement!
Produced for only one single year, in both Coupe and Convertible
forms, the 2019 Corvette ZR1 would possess the all-new, pushrod LT5
6.2L DI V8 engine with a 52% larger Eaton TVS2650 supercharger,
larger intercooler, and improved engine cooling to produce 755
horsepower and 715 ft. lbs. of torque! Mated to a GM 8L90 8-speed
automatic transmission, it was good for 0-60 in 2.8 seconds and a
top speed of 215mph! To accomplish this, the ZR1 has redesigned
aero bodywork tested for ultimate air flow efficiency and downforce
in wind tunnels. A larger rear wing, front splitter, as well as an
underbody spoiler, force air to needed areas to reduce drag while
keeping vital components cool.
For serious track enthusisasts, you can opt for the ZTK Performance
Package with a high fixed rear wing to add 60% more downforce at
speed, in addition to a carbon fiber front splitter end caps,
Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 run flat tires (summer only), and
specific chassis suspension & Magnetic Ride handling control
settings for optimised cornering characteristics. The ZR1 comes
with standard carbon ceramic brakes and massive Brembo calipers to
bring the 3,560 lbs ZR1 to easy, controlled stops all day long at
the track!
