For Sale: 1982 Morgan 1600 in Stratford, Connecticut

Vehicle Description

Interesting history....we purchased the car from a Frenchman living in Alabama. When delivered we saw something odd.....EU license plates yet with a UK tax stamp holder on the windshield. Hmmmm.

We strongly suspected this car was used in the UK, went to France and was converted from RHD to LHD. After all, every part necessary for the conversion was available, just across the English Channel.

AND..........54,000 original miles, aluminum bodied, very good original red paint, comfortable seats, new burl wood dash with glove box door (doesn't seem like a big deal but these cars didn't come with a door), smaller leather steering wheel, even a matching Smiths clock.

Engine was just completely rebuilt and modified...bored to 1700cc with new Hepolite pistons, ARP hardware, balanced, vernier timing gears, Kent cam, gas flowed cylinder head, high pressure oil pump, duplex timing gears and chains, powder coated headers, very special 'Swan' intake manifold, new twin 40 DCOE WEbers, dual throttle cables, alloy rocker cover with Morgan badge, electronic ignition, racing style reduction gear starter motor,, and heavy duty clutch.

Coupled to a freshly rebuilt BW T9 close ratio five speed transmission.

Disc brakes with new dual master cylinder, all new clutch hydraulics, new pedal assembly, Koni shocks, new 15" chrome wire wheels with 165-15 radials, on board fire suppression system, , battery cut off switch, remote jumper terminal (making jump starting easy), LED brake light, air horns, electric cooling fan for the radiator, twin fuel pumps, twin driving lights that work via the high-low beam switch, chrome luggage rack, excellent factory original side curtains, top, and full tonneau. Under and behand the dash is a new stereo/CD, USB output, 12v outlet, and quality speakers.

Weighing only around 1500 pounds and with its 140hp engine (similar to the engine specs of a Caterham Super 7 of the era), it is one quick Morgan. With excellent steering and handling. Ride is far better than earlier Morgans and the fresh air heater is quite effective even down to 30 degrees (added to the wonderful fit of the top and side curtains.

It is the perfect compromise in a really usable Morgan....unlike later Morgans, minimal electronics, no fuel injection, easy to service, maintain, and repair. And unlike an earlier Morgan, light, fast, better ride all synchromesh transmission, more modern safety equipment, and with near every accessory.
