In the world of collector cars, finding a numbers-matching
first-generation Pony Car in good condition is about as exciting as
watching your team win the Superbowl. This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro
RS/SS Tribute comes to us with its original engine and
transmission, but has been fully repainted to give it a sleek
triple-black look. The added SS emblems are all in their
factory-correct locations along the front fenders, on the rear gas
cap, and nestled in between those unforgettable hideaway
headlamps.
Inside, we find an original looking interior features a set of
black vinyl bucket seats separated by a stock-style center console.
A big dual-pod gauge clusters sits just beyond the power-assisted
three spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel, which matches the woodgrain
trim of the center stack and console nicely. A easy-to-grip
staple-style shifter gives way to sliding HVAC controls and an
AM/FM cassette stereo, while a useful expletive handle is available
for the front passenger for those unsuspecting enthusiastic jaunts
up to the speed limit
Under the hood, we find a factory-correct 327 cubic-inch V-8 topped
with a single two-barrel Rochester carburetor that made an
advertised 210 horsepower when it rolled off the assembly line more
than a half century ago. A stock exhaust manifold feeds into a dual
exhaust setup before exiting out through a set of sweet-sounding
FlowMaster mufflers to give this small block the sound we expect
from an old school muscle car. That power is routed through a
numbers-matching two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission before
heading out to the ten bolt rear.

This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS Tribute rides on an independent
front suspension and traditional solid axle rear. While original
equipment is always awesome, there's no debating that this Pony Car
looks fantastic with its upgraded seventeen-inch American Racing
Torq Thrust II polished wheels shod in staggered Accelera tires
measuring 235/45R-17 up front and wider 255/40R-17 in back. While
you may not have much control about football playoffs, the joy that
comes from owning an original numbers-matching first-gen Camaro is
well within your grasp. All you need to do is pick up the phone and
