Vehicle Description
While it may be gone from production, the legend of the Chevelle is
far from forgotten. One look at this 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396
Tribute, and it's easy to see why this car has amassed a massive
following over the last half century. Fully repainted in its
original Cortez Silver, contrasted with its black vinyl hardtop,
this throwback muscle car has seen very little mileage since its
engine was rebuilt in 2017, leaving plenty of life left on the
clock for its next lucky owner to enjoy. With its beltline black
pinstripe and SS badging, this car makes an entrance anywhere it
goes.
Inside, we find a clean, stock-style vinyl interior featuring a
power-assisted three-spoke steering wheel that sits in front of a
three-pod gauge cluster, which consists of a big 120 mph
speedometer, center-mounted analog clock, and a 7,000 rpm
tachometer surrounded by four auxiliary meters displaying gas, oil
pressure, engine temperature, and battery health. Sliding HVAC
controls and an AM radio bring you back to a simpler time, while an
additional set of Stewart Warner gauges has been neatly mounted at
the base of the center stack, which offers more accurate readings
for both oil pressure and water temperature. Dual bucket seats
separated by a center console gives both driver and passenger
plenty of room and their own unique view of the fast-approaching
landscape that can be seen across that expansive and sculpted
hood.
Speaking of that hood, underneath we find a period-correct 396
cubic-inch V-8. Rebuilt with a larger bore, 454 CID
externally-balanced crankshaft, JE pistons, and stainless-steel
roller rockers inside rectangular port L-78 cylinder heads. A
single four-barrel Holley carburetor feeds a Winters aluminum
intake manifold, while spent gases are sent through a true dual
exhaust capped off with a set of chrome tips to finish off this
powertrain perfectly. The result of those mods is a documented 499
horsepower at 6,000 rpm and approximately 482 pound-feet of torque
at 4,300 rpm. That prodigious power is routed through a Muncie
four-speed manual transmission before heading out to the
twelve-bolt rear end.
