A full repaint in Emberglo gives this 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible
a distinct and hard-to-miss personality, especially paired with a
clean black canvas convertible top. The 17-inch chrome 5-spoke
American Racing wheels sit flush in the wheel wells, filling them
with a proper muscle car stance. Suspension geometry has been
upgraded to sit right without looking overdone. Nitto 555 G2
rubber, sized 245/45ZR17 up front and 275/40ZR17 in back, completes
the look and fills it with confidence. The car has presence-nothing
flashy, nothing forced, just right.
The interior sticks with black from top to bottom. Vinyl bucket
seats lead the way, followed by a matching rear bench and door
panels that keep it cohesive. A floor-mounted shifter rests in a
center console, with an AM/FM/AUX stereo in place to take care of
sound duties. The steering wheel wears the Mustang badge, and the
controls are simple and familiar. Comfort is handled by
factory-style air conditioning and power steering, giving the cabin
just enough extra without going overboard.
The Blueprint 302 V8 was dyno'd at 374 horsepower and 364 lb-ft of
torque before it was even bolted in. Fuel delivery is handled by a
Holley 4-barrel carb, and shifting goes through a TCI-built C4
3-speed automatic. Out back, the 9-inch QP rear axle was installed
new, and the suspension features Aldan coilovers up front with
adjustable Aldan shocks in the rear. Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes
with 2-piece drilled and slotted rotors sit behind the wheels, and
dual exhaust exits through MagnaFlow mufflers with a deep tone and
confident bark.
