This a 1982 Corvette that was owned by my Father In Law who passed away last June. The Corvette has been stored in a garage since at least 2016 without being driven again. He bought the Vette in 1991 and the title shows miles exempt but a car fax report shows in 1986 the original owner had only 14,821 on Vette and until 1991 apparently never redid the registration up to the 1991 date sold to my Father In Law. In 2012 according to car fax vehicle had 40,214. At this point it is believed he drove the Vette very little and after 2016 registration the Vette was covered and stored in garage and never driven again. There is nothing in any of the paperwork with some receipts that shows that the 46,900 miles on Vette now is not actual miles on car. Carfax shows Vette stolen in 1983 in August and in September a Salvage Title was issued. It was stolen again April 1984. Carfax shows in June 1986 a normal title was issued for Vette. This is what AI says about stolen vehicles in Missouri. Missouri does issue a salvage title for a stolen vehicle, particularly when the insurance company settles a claim and the vehicle is deemed a total loss. Even if the vehicle is recovered and determined to be in good condition after theft, it may still be subject to salvage titling. It is recommended an inspection on vehicle if you have any concerns. On to the current condition of the Vette. It was towed to my house in November and the following work was done to get running. New battery. Oil and filter were replaced. We drained the fuel that was in tank and added fresh 93 Octane fuel along with Mechanic In Bottle. The two injectors were junk and car would not start. Both injectors were replaced. Car started and ran rough. At this point all spark plugs were replaced. Plug wires were tested and distributor parts were in good condition. Car started up right away and ran a bit rough but after running for a while and getting the good gas and additive running through system Vette runs get. Seems to be a bit cold natured upon starting up but runs fine after a bit. AC did not work. Compressor was bad and replaced along with orifice tube and AC was flushed and vacuumed down. Vacuum held for 6 hours. Refrigerant was added per specs but compressor would not cycle. A new AC cycle switch was replaced and AC blows cold as it should. Now to the things we did not tackle. The stock radio will come on but does not work. The cruise does not work. The electric antenna does not work. You will see in pictures where someone while doing something with battery behind driver’s seat got whatever they hooked up to battery got very hot and burned a small area on driver’s door panel down low and charred the paint in that area.
Back to the good stuff:
The interior is in very good shape except for the burned area and some wear spots on driver seat and some sort of separation of carpet on passenger side. See pics.
The exterior looks very good for the age no major dings, scratches or blemishes. The rear bumper is a bit off matching color with rest of car. Not sure if normal or if it was replace and repainted. See pics
Tires are brand new. Wheels are not stock to the Vette and one is missing Center Cap. See pics.
Frame is ok condition with expected rust issues but nothing major. See pics.
I am not a Vette fan but this one is in good shape and runs down the road very well.
