Built by Superformance as their MKIII recreation, this 1965 Shelby
Cobra Superformance MKIII arrives in bright yellow paint with
contrasting black racing stripes running front to rear. The
convertible body sits on 15" Halibrand knock-off wheels wrapped in
P225/60R15 front and P275/60R15 rear tires. Side pipe exhaust exits
dramatically along the body flanks, while the black vinyl
convertible top provides weather protection when needed. A single
roll bar adds both safety and authentic racing appearance to the
open cockpit design.
Black vinyl bucket seats dominate the interior, built for
performance driving with firm bolstering and classic racing style.
The floor-mounted shifter connects directly to the transmission,
while Smiths gauges with reversed speedometer display vital engine
information in traditional Cobra fashion. Black carpeting covers
the floor, and the center console houses additional controls. This
interior focuses on function keeping weight down and the driver
connected to the mechanical experience.
Motivation comes from a massive 514 cubic inch V8 built from Ford's
D9TE-AB 429/460 block, bored over for increased displacement. A
Holley 4-barrel carburetor feeds the big block, which connects to a
Tremec 3550 5-speed manual transmission. The 8.8 rear axle
transfers power to the ground through independent rear suspension
with sway bar. Four-wheel power disc brakes provide stopping power,
while independent front suspension with control arms, coil springs,
shocks and sway bar handles cornering duties. Long tube headers
feed into the side pipe exhaust system.
