Big rear meats and shaved handles usually mean one thing-this 1961
Chevrolet Impala Bubbletop Pro Street was built with purpose.
Finished in Candy Apple Red Metallic with custom-painted silver
stripes that trace where the factory brightwork once lived, it cuts
a distinct profile. The doors are shaved, the side windows are
deleted, and the front and rear glass is clean and clear. Rolling
on 15-inch wheels, the setup is staggered and serious: skinny
165/80R15 tires up front and enormous 33/22.50/15LT Hoosiers tucked
in the rear tubs.
Inside, it's business with style. A full roll bar in silver-gray
stretches through the tubbed cabin, surrounding a set of two-tone
gray vinyl bucket seats. The dash is body-matched and fitted with
AutoMeter gauges. A Jeffco lightning floor shifter runs through a
trimmed center console, and the Simpson racing harnesses are
already in place. Trunk-mounted AM/FM/AUX stereo keeps the music
alive when it's not running wide open. No back seat-just clean,
sorted sheet metal and custom work front to back.
Power comes from a 632 cubic inch Merlin V8, fed by dual Holley
4500 4-barrel carburetors and topped with a tall air cleaner. It
runs aluminum heads, a high-rise aluminum intake, and a serpentine
belt setup. Stainless braided hoses and a dual-fan aluminum
radiator keep temps in check. Exhaust exits through long-tube
headers into FlowMaster mufflers. The Jeffco 4-speed manual sends
power to a Ford 9" rear with 4.56 gears, held in place by a
four-link with adjustable coilovers. Matching coilovers ride up
front, and all four corners are equipped with disc brakes.
