Vehicle Description
Fresh build with 289 miles. Mark IV Factory Five kit. 347 cubic
inch stroker motor, Tremec 5-speed. New Wilwood 4-wheel disc
brakes. 17-inch Halibrand-style replicas. Fully sorted and tuned. A
gorgeous Cobra at a price well under the cost to build! We've all
dreamed of building a Cobra replica, but when you start doing the
math it doesn't make a lot of sense. Parts, paint and bodywork,
upholstery, and all the other little details add up quickly, not to
mention the time you'll have to invest getting it all together. If
you're the kind of person who likes the drive rather than sanding
fiberglass for hours on end, then a finished car is what you want.
And this gorgeous Factory Five Mark IV Cobra definitely delivers.
With just 289 miles since it was completed, it remains completely
fresh and it was built using entirely new parts, not used Mustang
stuff, so it's 100% ready to rock. Factory Five has high quality
fiberglass shells, and this is no exception?it was pretty good
right out of the box. But if you want the doors, hood, and trunk to
fit right, it takes time. If you want the deep, glossy shine this
car shows, it takes time. And if you want all the little hardware
pieces to fit right, well, it takes time. This car had all that
time invested and it shows. The silver paint glows in the sunlight
and the red stripes give it a traditional Cobra look. And it looks
like a Cobra should look: single racing hoop, riveted hood scoop,
lightweight bumperettes, and just right little marker lights. Most
of the exterior lighting is LEDs now, but that's really the only
tipoff that this is a modern build. It has the right look. The
interior is Cobra simplicity: two bucket seats, a wooden dash full
of gauges, and not much else. The low-back buckets look right in a
Cobra, keeping the vintage vibe with a bit of extra support.
Simpson racing harnesses are surely a good idea, and we're happy to
see that lovely wood-rimmed steering wheel instead of some leftover
Mustang plastic piece. A full complement of Auto Meter gauges
monitors the 347 inch stroker motor up front, and the tach is
positioned right where it will do the most good. Other simple
switches control the lights, wipers, and ancillary controls, and
there is no heater and no radio (not that anything could sound
better than those side pipes anyway). Drilled pedals help with the
lightweight performance image and the shifter for the Tremec
5-speed is canted forward just like it should be in a Cobra. In
back there's a reasonable trunk that's been carpeted to match the
interior. No top, no windows, but such things are available from
various sources and easy to install if you think you need them. The
engine is a built 5.0 bored and stroked to 347 cubic inches. We
don't have dyno sheets, but the 347's legendary torque curve
combined with the Cobra's featherweight curb weight mean
acceleration is explosive at any speed. It's worth noting that all
the parts are new, the engine is a fresh build, so no concerns
about used parts in this Cobra. Up top there's a big Holley
4-barrel carburetor, the ignition is electronic, and it's properly
tuned so it starts easily, idles nicely, and pulls like a freight
train. Other notable features include power steering, which is a
rare find in a Cobra, and a hydraulic clutch for a light pedal.
Ceramic-coated headers dump into those spectacular-sounding side
pipes and there's a massive aluminum radiator with electric fans up
front keeping it all cool. It simply works. The Tremec 5-speed has
light shift action and a tall overdrive 5th gear, which works in
concert with the 3.08 gears out back to make this a relaxed highway
cruiser, not a high-strung monster. Up front you'll find a custom
coil-over suspension with upper and lower A-arms while the brand
new 8.8-inch rear axle is suspended on trailing arms, coil over
shocks, and a Panhard rod. A big disc brake at each corner keeps
things under control and it sits on those gorgeous 17-inch
Halibrand-style wheels with fat 245/45/17 front and 315/35/17 rear
Mickey Thompson performance radials.Documentation is extensive,
with build manuals, wiring diagrams, receipts, parts books,
advertising literature, certifications (this vehicle has been
inspected by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and given an assigned
VIN), and even a bag full of SKU codes making replacement parts
like brake pads and power steering belts easy to source. It also
includes a fairly big collection of digital photos and videos of
the entire build.Beautiful to look at and thrilling to drive, this
Cobra delivers on the legend. It isn't over-built and high strung
like a lot of such builds, and it was built with an eye towards
being easy to live with. In that regard they've really succeeded,
but make no mistake?this sucker is still insanely fast and demands
that you pay attention whenever you press the loud pedal. If that's
your kind of fun, this Cobra is ready to party with you. Call
