This 2000 Ferrari 360 Modena was ordered in Rossa Corsa, Ferrari's
signature red, along with a tan leather interior. The car was
spec'd with the highly desirable gated 6-speed manual transmission,
now a collector item among Ferrari enthusiasts. The Ferrari was
also spec'd with the Rear "Challenge Style" Black Grille, Scuderia
Ferrari Shields on Fenders, Brake Calipers in Red Color, and a
6-Disc CD Changer. During the 360 Modena's life, a stainless steel
Tubi Style exhaust system was installed, allowing for the Ferrari
V8's power to go up an estimated 3-5%, plus with an intoxicating
exhaust note. The 360 found its longtime caretaker in the form of a
Los Altos, California resident, who would go on to own the Ferrari
for almost 20 consecutive years.
The Los Altos owner, a mechanic and an owner of his own workshop,
came over from Germany in 1952 in order to find more suitable work
for himself. Landing in a Chevrolet dealership first in the
midwest, he eventually traveled west and landed in the town of Los
Altos where he opened his own mechanic shop. Having owned many
Porsches over the years, he mentioned that he wanted to experience
what made Ferraris special. He purchased this 360 Modena in October
of 2005 and added just over 17,000 miles in his 20-year
ownership.
Upon arriving at Canepa, the 360 Modena was thoroughly inspected
both mechanically and cosmetically. As a part of the "Canepa
Difference" process, the Ferrari is scheduled to complete a
comprehensive mechanical servicing (including belts) and for the
installation of a new set of high performance Michelin Pilot Sport
tires. The Ferrari was treated to a comprehensive detailing that
included a full multi-stage foam pad polishing of the Rossa Corsa
paint, along with the interior receiving a full detailing,
completing the Ferrari's "Canepa Difference" process. Included in
the sale of this Ferrari 360 Modena are its Ferrari books, tool
kit, 2 keys, flat tire kit, and flashlight.
With 6-speed manual transmissions becoming rarer and rarer each
year, and considering that Ferrari themselves do not make a manual
transmission car today, only accents the prestige and coveting of
the Ferrari 360 Modena. With a classic 6-speed gated transmission,
an intoxicating exhaust note from its naturally aspirated 3.6L V8
engine made in Italy, and visuals that have only appreciated over
the last couple of decades, this 2000 Ferrari 360 Modena is made
for the driver to enjoy the driving experience, while also looking
the part too.
About the Ferrari 360 Modena
With the era of production ending with the highly praised Ferrari
F355, the Italian supercar maker needed to be looking forward to
its next exciting model. Seeing that the F355 was a commercial and
critical success, it was imperative that Ferrari's next vehicle be
a home run to continue their momentum forward. Then, at the March
1999 Geneva Motor Show, Ferrari pulled the curtain back on its
latest model: the 360 Modena. Named after the birthplace of the
company's founder, Enzo Ferrari, the 360 Modena introduced a suite
of new developments leading to made the 360 one of Ferrari's most
exceptional vehicles to drive and enjoy.
Ferrari, with a factory F1 team providing some spiritual guidelines
for their street cars, introduced a new way of thinking with their
360 Modena: lightweight aluminum. It was the first production
Ferrari to be constructed entirely from aluminum, including the
chassis, body, and suspension, with aluminum alloys making up the
rest of the car. This, despite the car being significantly larger
than the F355, led to a very modest weight gain of around 88lbs.
Clever manufacturing kept structural areas thicker in the chassis
where other spots used bonded aluminum to keep weight down. The new
bodystyle and focus on aerodynamics, particularly the underside of
the car, yielded the 360 almost 4x the amount of downforce vs. the
outgoing F355 car.
The heart of the 360 Modena, the casted-aluminum 3.6L naturally
aspirated V8 engine, also received a similar amount of attention.
The Tipo F131B engine was an enlarged and upgraded version of the
powerplant from the F355. Dual overhead camshafts, 90� V8 with 5
valves per cylinder, variable valve timing and dry-sump lubrication
led to a total power of 394hp. A new flat-plane crankshaft and
engine management system lended to the 360's new and exotic exhaust
note. Titanium connecting rods were standard equipment.
Transmissions offered were a 6-speed manual transmission, or
Ferrari's electro-hydraulic F1 automated manual system with paddle
shifters located behind the steering wheel.
With a host of options available to customers, from exterior colors
and leather interiors to the more nuanced options of specific
customization, the 360 was a hit, both critically and commercially.
Exceptional driving dynamics, stunning visuals, and an intoxicating
exhaust note, it was so popular during the dot com boom that
Ferrari had a completely full order book, enough for 2-years worth
of orders, in a matter of weeks. Ferrari would go on to produce
1,810 Modenas for the U.S. market, but only 469 of those cars would
sport the classic gated 6-speed manual transmission.
