Transmission | TMI Interior | Stainless Exhaust
This 1965 Ford Mustang coupe was ordered from the factory with a
K-code Hi-Po 289ci V8 and a four-speed close-ratio manual
transmission, and a 3.50 rear gear ratio! Work included overhauling
the engine, transmission, and suspension, fitting the 9 rear end
with a replacement limited-slip differential, and refurbishing the
cabin with red loop carpeting, a retro-look Bluetooth radio, and
TMI Products red vinyl seats. Further equipment includes a Hurst
shifter, an Autolite four-barrel carburetor, front disc brakes, and
a beautiful American racing 17"" wheel and tire package.
The car was delivered from the factory in Vintage Burgundy (X) and
was refinished in black under previous ownership. Details include a
grille bar, chrome bumpers, dual side mirrors, and finned rocker
panel trim, The suspension was overhauled during the refurbishment,
and braking is handled by a front disc and rear drum system with a
dual-bowl master cylinder.
Inside, refurbishment work included applying sound-deadening
material and POR15 beneath the replacement red loop carpets,
installing TMI Products red vinyl front bucket and rear bench
seats, and fitting a TMI Products removable center console with a
Hurst shifter. Appointments consist of a retro-look Bluetooth
radio, a storage cubby, and lap belts. The red three-spoke steering
wheel frames Rally-Pac-style instrumentation that includes a
tachometer and an analog clock fitted below the 120-mph
speedometer. The five-digit odometer shows 42k miles, approximately
3k of which were added under current ownership.
The K-code Hi-Po 289ci V8 was overhauled in 2023 and is equipped
with a refurbished Autolite 4100 C4GF-E four-barrel carburetor,
PerTronix ignition components, a replacement wiring harness, and a
chrome-finished air cleaner and valve covers. The engine retains
#19 and #21 cylinder heads along with various factory-style chalk
and orange markings, and that a period-correct alternator and
starter were installed during the refurbishment. The correct HCC AX
quick steer box is in the vehicle and the vin is retained on both
the engine and transmission!
