Pro built by SEMA hall of famer Pete Chapouris, owner of SO-CAL
Speed Shop for John Devine, former CFO at Ford and GM! It was a
$200,000 build in 2004! They started with a 15,000 mile, 1 owner
cream puff.
In a feature article on Hot Rod they said: "The end result is a car
that was built with deep pockets containing a water cooled
checkbook, for sure. But it's also one of the nicest, cleanest,
best driving Chevelles we've ever seen."
EXTERIOR: Absolutely incredible body work, every inch is laser
straight. It made it nicer that they started with a rust free car
that still had it's original metal. The side emblems and trim were
shaved and the 2 body lines on the hood were extended. I found zero
body work, bubbles, cracks etc. the gaps are like a new Mercedes,
the doors shut like a new car. Painted PPG black and it is a
literal mirror. The trim really sets it apart, it has a brushed
nickel finish giving it a unique and sophisticated look. The stance
is perfect and it is sitting on custom made 18x8 Budnick Muroc III
wheels finished in two tone brushed nickel.
INTERIOR: The interior was done by renowned Gabe's Custom Auto
Interiors. Supple leather upholstery covers the inside of this car.
German square weave carpet covers the floor with matching mats and
leather bound edges. The original seats were given custom foam
giving the front and back seats a great look and comfortable
feeling. The custom door panels are wrapped in leather and have
machine turned trim. The custom made console is also covered in
machine turned trim and has a 6-speed shifter sticking out of it.
The dash area is clean and classy with leather dash pad, machine
turned inserts, brushed nickel trim and factory style gauges and
tachometer. The modern a/c was integrated into the original style
controls and vents. There is a stereo system hidden out of site.
Snake oil reproduction seatbelts. The headliner is custom and the
visors are leather. The steering wheel is original with brushed
nickel horn ring and leather wrapped grip. This interior is worthy
of a new European luxury car!
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: GM first introduced the Z06 in 2004 so it was
an easy decision for the GM exec to install a crate Corvette Z06
7.0 liter (427ci) LS7 motor that makes 505 hp and 470 lbs of torque
in this Chevelle! It's an aluminum engine with forged crank,
aluminum pistons, CNC ported heads, 11:1 compression and a dry sump
oil system. The stainless headers were custom fabricated. It is a
very neat installation using the factory components and computer
system that came with a Z06. Features include power steering and
brakes, air conditioning and an upgraded cooling system. Everything
is neatly painted smooth satin black.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Under the trunk lid and the jamb are painted as
nice as the car. Inside is boxed and upholstered extremely well. It
has the Mercedes square weave carpet with leather bound trim.
Behind the back panel is the battery with built in tender and
stereo equipment.
UNDERSIDE: The body was off the frame. The original frame was
prepped and painted then treated to an upgraded suspension. Upfront
has 2 inch drop spindles, tubular control arms, and a fat swaybar.
Bilstein gas shocks are at all four corners. In the rear it has1
inch drop springs and a Global West 4 link system with added
supports. A Baer big brake system with 14 inch drilled and slotted
rotors in front, 13 inch in back and a custom e-brake assembly. 3
inch stainless exhaust with x-pipe and MagnaFlow mufflers. Modified
crossmember to accommodate the Z06 aluminum oil pan. It's a T56
Tremec 6-speed manual trans with a Z06 hydraulic clutch. An
aluminum Inland Empire driveshaft leads back to the Currie 9 inch
rear with 3.89 TruTrac gears. The floors are original rust free
metal that were prepped and painted.
SERVICE: We take pride in our cars and reputation. Therefore, we
built a 2 million dollar, 10,000 square ft service center, and
hired a team of technicians to work it. This is so we can sell you
the best cars within reason.
The result was exactly what the GM exec set out to do: build a
vintage car he could drive anywhere he wanted. This car drives and
performs incredibly well. It looks just as good too. World glass,
legendary talent went into building this car which makes it even
that much more special!
Also included are conceptual renderings, pictures of original
15,000 mile car, email correspondence between the GM exec and Pete
Chapouris.
For nearly 30 years, I, Jay Grams, have personally written the
highlights for almost every car in our collection. What I provide
is my professional opinion based on my experience with these
vehicles. However, opinions can vary, and I strongly recommend a
personal inspection to form your own view. Our sales team is always
available to answer any questions you may have. One great option is
to request a personalized walk-around video, where we can showcase
the car and share our team's insights.
Our cars are displayed within a museum setting. If you are
interested in a specific vehicle, please schedule an appointment
with a salesperson to view it. Without an appointment, there is an
admission fee to enter the showroom. If you decide to purchase a
car, your admission will be refunded, and you'll receive a one-year
museum membership.
