Under the new vision leadership of Henry Ford II, the early 1950’s car market was not much of a market at all, but rather a pure dominating Ford stronghold of all car sales in the U.S. Yes, Chevrolet, Cadillac and other car brands existed, but Ford was an advisory that could not be matched for the first several years of the Fabulous Fifties. Chevrolet was resolute to change this as 1952 came into view, and they reached out to Ed Cole to breath life into their sleepy car division. Cole had already found success at Cadillac in the late 40’s, before shifting focus to GM Defense projects during the war. Chevrolet Brass knew that with the proven successes of his overhead valve V-8 project at Cadillac and his spry and eager attitude, Cole was the man to lead the charge. Cole brought optimism to Chevrolet on day one and quickly teamed up with Harley Earl as Styling Chief for the venture. Chevrolet was behind in styling as Ford had been rolling “shoe box” cars off there line for a couple years already, and they knew that in order to gain the younger demographic they would need stylishness and power in their new hobbyhorse. In 1955, they would not only win a portion of that youth market, they would begin to dominate it quickly as they introduced the all new 1955 Chevy. With a grill that looked like it came off a Ferrari, a dash that was styled from a Corvette, covered headlights and a brand-new beast under the hood, the hearts of younger Americans rapidly started beating for Chevy. The new V-8 Chevy Belair, Nomad, and 210 would rocket to nearly 1.8 million cars sold and account for a staggering 24% of the U.S. automobile market that year. This success would lead to these cars being revered as the most American of the American Automobiles as decades passed by. Draped in history and loved by the masses, D&D Classic Cars is very pleased to offer one of these momentous automobiles in the purest of forms. Introducing our 1955 Chevrolet 210 Station Wagon.
