Frame-Off complete restoration / repair of a LAND ROVER 88 Series 2 to the highest standard
The Series 2 was built from April 1958 to summer 1971, divided into Series 2 bis from 1958-1961 and Series 2a from 1961-1971 as the successor to Series 1.
The Series 2 was improved in many details. A 2.25 litre engine replaced the 2.0 litre engine, the steering was improved, the differentials were reinforced and the body was slightly larger, offering more space for the slightly taller driver and passenger.
This Series 2a was built as one of the last examples before the Series 3 appeared with the external headlights in the wings.
Delivered new to British Leyland France as a left-hand drive export model. However, it was registered directly in Austria, where it spent its entire life. Privately owned since 1985 until the end. In 2024 it was found in a very solid condition and the full restoration could begin.
The technology such as the engine, gearbox and differential were completely overhauled. The body was separated from the frame, extensively repaired and repainted with the existing original doors. The fit of the bodywork and the closing of the doors are perfect. The windscreen frame, the hood bow and the bumper were re-galvanised. For safety reasons, the frame was replaced with a new correct Series 2 frame, galvanised and painted black with a special paint. Original overhauled windscreen wiper motors and a Smith footwell heater have been fitted. The seat upholstery is new.
The result is a LAND ROVER 88 Series 2a in perfect condition, restored without compromise. Extremely rare and almost impossible to find on the market. In a beautiful and correct Land Rover Light Green colour with new upholstery, hood and useful upgrades for colourability and reliability such as an electronic ignition and a modern fuel pump. The quality of the paintwork is outstanding.
A classic from the picture book. For the enthusiast, the car collector and of course for the self-driving explorer.
