For Sale: 1966 Dodge Charger in Salesville, Ohio

Vehicle Description

The introduction of the Ford Mustang in 1964 changed the landscape of the “sporty” car market drastically, as Americans headed into the mid 1960’s. With the belief that the fastback look would quite possibly be a fad and quickly disappear, paralleled with the major flop that was the Barracuda, Chrysler officials were slow to enter the market at first. With the unprecedented sales that Ford enjoyed with the Mustang, it didn’t take long for Lynn Townsend to join in the race to superiority. Townsend gave the Dodge design team the green light to start designing their version of the sport car in 1964 with hopes of it hitting the market in 1965. The failures of the Barracuda pressed designers to come up with a B-body car that was much closer to its A-body predecessor. Ultimately the timeline was too tight and the best that Dodge could do was produce a concept car for the Chicago Car Show in 1965 that they dubbed the Charger II. That concept, that was loosely based on the Coronet, would take the market by storm when the 1966 Dodge Charger Fastback hit the market the following year. The new car would have the sporty appeal that designers were looking to add to the Dodge lineup and would begin boosting sales immediately. The new Charger would focus on interior details as the chief reason for a fairly hefty uptick in price, noting their seamless and flashy instrument panel and 4 bucket seat design in both the front and the back of the new automobile. The car would also show expression by way of full-length taillights and hidden headlights, all paired with updated and more showy badging and attributes. This 1966 Dodge Charger Fastback expresses all of those same attributes in a glossy red rendition. This car has all the glitz and glamour that the designers were looking to create. The exterior appeal is heightened by way of brand new but original chrome Chrysler Wheels swathed in new BF Goodrich T/A rubber, Dual Exhaust and dark tinted windows. Inside the dash elements are complemented by a stylish burgundy vinyl trimming, an Am radio and under dash A/C. Mechanically this car is as sound as they come. Featuring the ever popular 383 4-barrel engine, automatic transmission and an odometer showing 23,753 non-actual miles. Other notable enhancements include power steering and power brakes, as well as, power windows with newly rebuilt motors. It also has been elevated with new rear brakes, cylinders, and springs. This striking car has been thoroughly gone over and exhibits everything that the designers hoped for in their visons. These cars were designed to look fast strait off the dealership lot and we don’t expect that it will take long for this one to roll quickly off of ours.
